Hello,my name is Ajka, I'm a swedish Citizen, and I'm wondering if someone could help me. As you all know covid has caused travel bans for months now but as I was researching on the topic I found out that it's possible to travel to America from Croatia or Bosnia? Is that true? I'd really like that clarified because to be honest I'm feeling confused.

My best friend lives in America and she's chronically ill. I haven't gotten to visit her for a long time and this has been very hard on us, so imagine the excitement that it in fact would be possible for me to come back there to see her again for so long! Due to her illness she hasn't been able to come to me as it's too dangerous for her to fly at this moment.

The reason I'm talking about Bosnia and Croatia is because I did read that if you stayed in a country that wasn't banned from entry for 14 days you could then fly to america. My parents are also from those countries and I have relatives in both so i figured I could stay there for those two weeks.

So to summarize my questions are.
1. Is it possible to travel to America from either Croatia or Bosnia at this time? Are the boarders open for sure?
2. Can I go to Croatia or Bosnia, then fly to the US with a swedish passport and ESTA?
3. What is needed besides that? Negative covid tests? Take that before I leave Sweden and then before I head on to the US?

Yes, go to either of those 2 countries for 14 days and then fly to the US. Just don't transit through an airport in Schengen, UK, Ireland, etc. after leaving Croatia or Bosnia. For example, you can travel from ZAG to BEG to JFK.

Proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 3 days before leaving Croatia or Bosnia; or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19. https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/fr-proof-negative-test.html

The travel ban, Presidential Proclamation 10143, covers the 26 Schengen countries in the EU, plus Ireland, UK, Brazil and South Africa.  Croatia and Bosnia are not part of the Schengen zone and therefore are exempt from the ban.

As @HRQX stated, make sure you do not travel through the banned countries on your way to the US.  The travel ban applies even for transits through those countries.
