Pending AOS and volunteering for non-profit for refugees and asylum seekers

While waiting for my AOS interview, I've been looking for ways to volunteer in my local community.

From what I've gathered on the USCIS website and on VJ, I should be okay with volunteering with a nonprofit that is specifically geared towards serving refugees and asylum seekers and helping them integrate into life in the US.

The work will be strictly volunteer work, meaning no compensation of any kind. It's not something they would otherwise pay a USC or LPR to do.

The nonprofit is specifically looking for volunteers who can teach English and basic computer skills to new immigrants, and help them do errands/access social services/otherwise get used to life in the US.

Given that I'm pending AOS myself, are there any potential issues with volunteering for this nonprofit?

I can't see any issues. You don't gain anything from it immigration wise so I don't see a conflict here. That's probably what you're thinking about what could be the problem but as long as there's nothing illegal going on I would think you'll be fine and it's a great way to help.

Thanks, that was my conclusion too. As long as the refugees have already gone through the Dept of State and USCIS processes to travel legally to the US, I don't see a problem. Unless, of course, there are edge cases that someone on VJ could point me to.
