exactly, we also got an approval letter and passport pickup date and receipt. We told our family the big news and then suddenly we received the email..

Lol it's funny how similar you guys'stories are to ours. We also were excited and told our families, but soon after, we received that email. But I was telling my fiancee that I thought it might not have been a total denial.

But I will say one thing: the fact that so many people apparently have/had this same problem is a little comforting. It let's me know that we didn't do anything wrong.

From what I have heard, the questions are from form DS 5535, and it means that they will do an extensive background check through difference agencies.. and unfortunately there is no set timeline for the security checks.. the consulate website does say that most AP procedures are resolved within 60 days, but every case is different.

My fiancée and I are going through the same thing. It’s been 6 weeks in AP. My only advice is to follow up with the embassy weekly just to make sure your case stays on the officer’s mind. We have done that and they stopped replying after the first email, but we noticed that the last updated date changes after each email.

I sent an email last week, but they never got back to me :( and there has been no update on the website after my email..

I’d say keep emailing. It doesn’t hurt. Make sure to put the beneficiary’s name and the case number in the subject line.

Good luck with the wait. I know it’s so hard and at times very depressing.

Will do, keep us updated with your timeline! I wonder if all of us have something common in our cases, that we all ended up with a similar situation. Hopefully all of us get an answer soon, and get to be with our loved ones.

It’s just because they are in or have been in the MENA or SE Asian countries like Pakistan or Bangladesh. My fiancée has lived in Dubai for 10 years and she also visited me a couple of times when I lived in Oman.

This morning we got an email to send my fiancée’s passport to the embassy! Our status still reads refused on CEAC, but this usually means they are going to issue the visa. So we are cautiously excited.

It’s been almost 7 weeks of AP. So hopefully you guys will be the same or less. Keep emailing and stay positive!

Thank you!!! Crossing our fingers that this is truly the end of this part of the process.

Sunday is a work day in the Middle East.

Did the consulate return your fiancée’s passport at the interview or after the interview?

They returned her passport at the initial interview. After they finished the DS 5535 process, they sent an email telling her to mail her passport back to them. She did it the same day and they got it the next morning and sent it back to her by the end of the day. She got it the morning after.

Editing to add that our status changed from “refused” to “AP” once they received her passport. And it changed to “issued” once it was mailed back to her.
