Looking a little brighter for those wisely avoiding Manila.

This is the one PAL flight (CEB-LAX) I actually recommend and even moreso considering covid and avoiding a layover country with additional rules, etc.

My wife and I took this about 5 years ago when it first started and was quite nice not having to transit another country.  Oddly, the food was better going to the US than the return.

The problem I find with flight like that, Going from Cebu to LAX is I am in Texas I have to take some airline to LAX, which I despise, I do like SFO so much better, but then I have to worry about connecting flights.

I fly from DFW and either take American Airlines to Japan and then onto Manila. I have flown Delta a few times as well from Dallas but usually have to go to Michigan or Detroit and then onto Japan to Manila.

Point is I want to be on the same airline or at least a travel partner airlines so if the plane is late or flight is cancelled they will get to my destination without any hiccup.

If your flying out of San Antonio then can't you catch a direct flight to South Korea or Japan and then onto Manila/Cebu?

The point of the above list to avoid Manila altogether.  I have no problems with LAX compared the NAIA hole.

I also find better rates keeping the int'l and US domestic portions on different itineraries. Just watch for baggage charges.

I do carry on: I take one carry on and a back pack for 30 days. I will bring, shorts, Wife Beater Shirts, T-Shirts, and underwear, and one extra set of flip flops in case mine break, I am size 13 and not easy to find shoes there. When I land I go to pharmacy and get soap, deodorant, razors, shaving cream and go from there.

Me as of the last few years I spend about 5 days in Manila hanging out and partying since everything stays open till like 6am. And then I transfer to another location.  I used to fly in catch a red eye to Davao City and hang there, but that place has gotten heavy traffic and kinda boring to me.

I do have Cebu on my list to visit, I used to hang out there quit a bit in the early 2008 to 2012 time frame, I haven't been in a long time and want to see all the upgrades they have and check out the new airport and new tourist areas.

I believe they still have extreme limits on number of allowed inbound passengers to NAIA.  The airlines have been having to fly in half empty planes due to the limits and inbound flights to Manila have been extremely costly.  Flying into Cebu may bypass those inbound passenger limits and may be very helpful to the beleaguered airlines.

Yea, I went around 2012 and it was dead at night, I must of been during some off peak time.

I heard since they renovated the place you have to have reservations just to get on the island, I like to arrive and find a hotel.

Nope.  From here or even Austin, I would have the same issue.

I prefer the Asian airlines, as the American choices pretty much suck.  The hard part is flying to LA, SFO, or SEA from San Antonio first.

Finally done.

I would also advise watching flightaware.com to see what flights are actually making it and see how often they are being cancelled.  The flight I am taking from LAX to MNL has been cancelled once in the past 3 months so that flight shouldn't have any issues.

There was a short time Cebu flights were diverted to Manila because Duterte was having a tantrum. If I had to fly to Manila I wouldn't go at all. Right now I'm looking at going back to Cebu around January.

I've never had any problem with LAX, only MNL.  I think PAL has direct MNL to LAX or SFO.  Then you can take Southwest or Alaska to DFW cheap.
