Waiting 4 weeks for social security card on K1 pending AOS

My husband arrived here on a K1 on June 4th and we promptly got married and he called the local SSA office for an appointment after we sent our AOS papers. We waited until they had his records in their system and he received his social security appointment on June 24th. Ever since then, we’ve been waiting for his social security card. It’s been 4 weeks now and they told us it would only take 2-3 weeks. He called last week and they told him that they’re still verifying his info with DHS and it should arrive this week. When it didnt arrive, he called again today and no one picked up so he left a voicemail. 
 

Has this happened to anyone else? Is the SSA office just horribly backlogged because of Covid like everything else is?

If you go to the SSN forum,  i can only imagine you will discover that you are not alone.

From a report made about SS in 4/2020 in Federal news report this is said about the situation one month into the pandemic

you can image what it is now 16 months into this crisis with the back log piling up day to day 

Those who are working at the offices are handling dire-need appointments with members of the public and  are scanning 1.5 million pieces of mail and other documents into the agency’s systems each week.

 

In a lengthy letter to Congress ahead of Thursday’s hearing, SSA Commissioner Andrew Saul said it took the agency’s field offices 20% longer to complete actions in fiscal 2020. The workarounds they created for the pandemic “caused bottlenecks for certain workloads and service deterioration beyond our control,” SSA said.

 

So , yes SS is terribly backlogged

He arrived on the 24th to the US. Had the SS appointment on the 8th (2 weeks after arrival). Were told similarly "2 weeks until receipt." I know the post is extremely unreliable right now, so maybe I'll give a call this week.

So he hasn’t gotten his SS card yet either? Yeah I don’t know whats happening because we don’t have an update either. He’s going to call them today and stress that he’s been waiting more than 6 weeks now

Nope. Nothing. I know things are all turned upon their heads with backlogs with Covid and of course the mail. I've been trying to get him as an authorized user on my credit card, and that's been 2.5 weeks for the second card request. The first one "got lost in the mail and had to be deactivated." I started the cc journey beginning of July, so. 

 

I'm trying to be patient, but it is kind of important to have!

Update: SS office put his middle name as a second first name, so it got bungled in the system. "A new card will be mailed in 2 weeks when the error is fixed."
