Hello!

It feels like forever ago when I was glued to this invaluable website everyday waiting for news of my K1 and analysing everyone’s timelines!

So I think it’s nearly time to get back on the crazy USCIS train so I am back.

I entered on a K1. Got married 14th Feb 2019. Received temp greencard 5th December 2019. So it expires on 5th December 2021.

So questions for you lovely people:

1) When can I send off my I751 and get make on the hamster wheel of USCIS waiting?

2) I am in CT so what office do I check for processing time estimates?

3) As I am married to a US citizen what’s the earliest I can apply for my N400?

Thanks in advance!

Depends which service centre it goes to after filing at Phoenix. You won't know this until you get your receipt number. Bank on 18months. Could (and probably will) be longer, could be shorter.

Thanks so much. I’ll start collating the documentation! We do not have a huge number of joint things but we do have a few key ones including a son!

Just one last question, on the N400. So technically I can apply for my citizenship September 2022? That means I may be applying for that before I even get my 10 year green card. Hahaha! Is that correct?

@DJClaire not every piece of evidence needs to be joint. For example, even if the gas bill is only on your name and the electric bill is on your spouse's name, both bills will naturally display the same address, which in turn serves as evidence of cohabitation. If you pay both bills from your joint account, point that out on your cover letter. If you pay them out of your personal accounts, then present personal bank statements and explain how you pay for joint responsibilities.

Yes and no.

Yes you can apply before the i-751 is adjudicated, but you cannot be approved until it is adjudicated. This is why you often have a combo interview for both, if both applications are pending.

I applied for N-400 while my I-751 was pending. No issues.

If you apply for N-400 while ROC is still not approved, your ROC has to be approved first, then you can get an approval for N-400.

@DJClaire Yes, you may apply for naturalization as soon as you're eligible. USCIS "strives" to process N-400s within 6 months. They will process the N-400 until it reaches a hard stop. That is the pending I-751. Often times, they request the I-751 and you end up having a combo interview - or at least, that's the idea. For the most part, it works out pretty well.

1.  WITHIN 90 days of the card expiration.  Dont even send it a 1 day earlier than that.

2. All ROC applications go to the Phoenix location, as states on the forn instructions on USCIS website.  From there, it all depends.  For mine I got Nebraska, and I live in Washington.

3.  While ROC is pending if you so desire.

It looks good. If I may add something it would be to send all bank statements since the inception of the account -or at least three quarterly.

Not that you really have to, but if you want to add something it could be your State taxes. I would honestly get rid of some affidavits and add more evidence of financial comingling. Definitely add some utility bills -they prove that and also that you live together.
