How long did it take for Green Card and Social Security card to come?

Hi there! We just moved to Florida a couple days ago. At the border when we immigrated the officer said our stamped visa is good for a year and that because of covid, processing green cards are backed up and slow so it might take a while to get it in the mail.

He said if we haven't received it within 10 months we need to file for an extension for that stamp with USCIC.

Has anyone here moved during covid and got their green card? If so how long did it take to come after immigrating?

Also how long did it take your social security card to come?

Thanks!

My wife received her GC in about 6 weeks.  We never received her SSN.  After three weeks we called SSA and they stated there was no request in their system for her card/number.  We filled out and mailed a SS-5 to our local SSA office and got an appointment to apply in person.  After the appointment she got her SSN card in about a week.

Just as a heads-up: it is very common for SSN cards to not come automatically in the mail- it has always been like this, nothing to do with COVID. So now with COVID I'd expect to have to go in-person, as the above poster mentioned.

As for Green cards- thankfully, this wasn't the case- they almost always came in the mail within a few weeks. Now with COVID it is backed up as you said, but I'd be shocked if it didn't come before your stamp expires. Definitely annoying that it takes so long, hang in there and it will come.

Just received my green card.

Arrived May 20, received green card July 29. 70 days/10 weeks.

Seems I will have to call on my SSN though, should have done that within 3-4 weeks.

I just got my SSN today but my middle name is spelled wrong on it 🤦🏼‍♀️
