Crossing US Land border with immigrant visa

Hello,

After receiving the passport with your immigration visa; Did anyone cross the US border by land (not air) since COVID-19 and the officer processed your visa without any issues?

It seems that US border is not opened for Canadians non-essentials, or I’ll be considered US permanent resident since I have the immigrant visa?

Thank you all.

ioana.

Hi IoanaCA,

Looks like you got your visa from Montreal. I have my interview scheduled on Aug 23rd. I have a question on the PCC and the finger prints. Are we doing the level 2 police checks for the immigration? Do we need to do a fingerprint before the interview? If so, how and where to book the finger prints. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

Meera

Hello Meera,

My interview is on Aug 6 at Montreal :)

If you check the eligibility for the police certificate you’ll see they only accept the one from RCMP, which includes the fingerprints. Initially I send a simple credit check from Toronto police to NVC and they did not accept it. Then I had the RCMP certified criminal record and that accepted it. Unfortunately the one I had was expired so I apply for a new one. There is a list of accredited companies that are working with RMCP. Here attached the doc that I received from them. I did mine at Commissionaires. The only problem is they said it takes 5 weeks to get it now :( so I really hope I’ll get in time. Good luck!

Those entering with Immigrant Visas by land are considered essential travelers and will be processed without issue. :)

Hi IoanaCA,

How was your interview? What all questions did they ask you? Were you able to get your RCMP pcc on time? Also how do we do the biometrics for the us visa? Is the RCMP one is enough or do we need to book another appointment for biometrics at the consulate?

Thanks

Meera.

Hello,

Please read my interview review, that might answer your questions. https://www.visajourney.com/reviews/view-dos-cis-reviews.php?entry=29974

Also,  Only RCMP police certificate, biometrics are not required for consulate processing, or at list not for family based cases. I believe those ones are done only in the USA for AOS. I got the RCMP in 2 weeks :D I was so lucky. I think they just say 5-6 weeks wait time, but will send it early. I also send them an email to rush my request if possible. Maybe that help too.

Also do we need to update our social media accounts into the ds 260?

Thanks for your help

Update how? If you already submit your DS 260 o need to send updated about your new Facebook account for example. If they ask by any change yes, but I doubt they will. If you are about to send the DS 260 then yes, just add your Social media ID's ...that's it. They are focusing on more important background things than our social media accounts :)
