Hello Everyone,

As anyone received two NOA1 letters from two different service centers?

Our lawyer mailed the I-130 petition out in March 2021 to the Texas Service Center, then I received two NOA1 letters the same day at the beginning of April 2021 with an IOE receipt#

1. NOA type: Account Access Code - California Service Center at the bottom. I received but not our lawyer, and it was uploaded by USCIS in online account

2. NOA type: Receipt - Potomac Service Center at the bottom. Both myself and our lawyer received but it was not uploaded by USCIS in online account.

I sent a message to USCIS but I am waiting for a reply. Just want to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing and what service center was actually processing their case.

Thank you!

Your attorney likely sent the I-130 to the lock box in Texas, not the Texas Service Center.  It looks like Potomac is processing the I-130, since the receipt notice is the actual NAO1 of importance.   Be aware that USCIS can (and does) transfer petitions to other service centers at their discretion.

If I remember correctly (we filed 5 years ago), the Account Access Code just allows you to log into your USCIS account.  That's why your attorney did not receive it.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yes, our attorney did tell us that could happen. It's nice to know where it is currently to get an idea of processing times.

Thank you so much for your response, it was very helpful!

You got that notice because there is an ongoing effort by USCIS to upload paper-filed I-130 petitions into their online system.  The access code is just for activating your USCIS account.  When people here on VJ mention "NOA1", they mean the Receipt Notice.

Thank you for the clarification 😊

It was confusing because the account access notice came on an I-797 NOA form.

  • 4 weeks later...

We also received the 2 letters (as expected), on the same day, but with 2 different service centers.

I-797 NOA1 - receipt Nebraska SC

I-797 USCIS Online Account info - receipt Potomac SC (this was the one uploaded on our online account)

I was wondering if you had got any further clarification on where your application ended up?

Thanks :)

USCIS's reply to my online message was that my application was at the California Service Center (on my I-797 USCIS online account info).

I don't know how accurate that is though. For now I am going by what was on my 1-797 Receipt, which is the Potomac Service Center.

My plan is to call this week and speak with a live agent to get further confirmation. I will let you know what they say ☺️

Thank you! :)

We contacted USCIS on the live chat Emma, and they said our application was being processed at Potomac, which is what was on our online account info letter. Wasn't what I wanted to hear but at the same time, seems like these applications get transferred all the time, so it may not stay there..

I'm glad you were able to get assistance with the Ask Emma Chat! I wasn't able to get any information that way.

I spoke with an agent today and they told me our application was originally with the Potomac Service Center (I-797 Receipt) but transferred to the California Service Center. You're correct, they seem to get changed all time. I wonder how that affects processing times since it was transferred to a center with a longer wait time 🤔

Best of luck with your process! ☺️

I presume we have to follow the processing times where the application is currently at, but I've seen other people saying that you have to follow where the NOA1 was originally sent from. Just a waiting game I think.

California might not be so bad, I have seen people getting approved pretty quickly there!

Good luck :)

Same thing happened to us.  We filed at the lockbox in Texas, got a letter for the online account from Nebraska, NOA1 from Potomac and then Emma Live Chat told me we were sent to California.

It's confusing and frustrating, especially when you are trying to estimate processing times but it's a waiting game nonetheless so I try not to worry too much about it.

Stay positive 💛☺️ Best of luck!
