I think that should work out. If they turn you away, you can always return when you get your passport. I am glad you renewed it. It's always good to have an unexpired passport.

Why would they turn away?? It would be another two months and I wouldn't want that.

I do not know. Hopefully, you will get your passport in time for your biometrics appointment.

Regular driver's license should be fine, at this point in time.

I read that the government issued national id card is also fine that has a photo on it

My status changed to Fingerprints were taken on February 17th and on March 1st I received a RFIE, in which I sent my response in May, and got approved 2 days after USCIS received my response. Bring what your letter say, it’s simple as that. And if you bring your passport, even if it’s not required, you never know. It’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Good luck!

I had my biometrics appointment for removing conditions in December 2020 in Maryland.

On your appointment letter it should say what ID you need, however, 100% take your expired green card.

I did not, and even though it says on the letter any official ID is fine, they refused to help me until I presented my expired green card. I had to go home and get it. I even showed the lady what the letter said, and she said "I know what the letter says" but still refused to help until I got my expired green card.

I had a really horrible experience, and I'm not trying to worry you, I'm just encouraging you to take your expired green card, because it may be all they need.
