It is just sad that an American would have to live under the rule that fireworks, particularly in the month of July, are "illegal".   Fireworks here started around the 20th of June and continued until about a week ago.

The "big problem" seems to be a lack of freedom.

States, counties and cities can limit our "freedoms" (note: fireworks are not a freedom) if there is a compelling interest to do so. Like with freedom of assembly, a city can say "you can only march here, at this time" as long as the restrictions aren't related to what the person or group supports.

Here -- as I'm sure you know -- there is a high risk of catastrophic fire from stray sparks landing on very dry tinder. No one "needs" to set off fireworks to feel festive. I love fireworks personally, but balancing that enjoyment against keeping my community and my home safe comes out every time in favor of keeping safe.

I can see how a kid might think it's "sad" and a "big problem" that they can't set off fireworks. What I think is "sad" and a "big problem" are fully preventable fires that destroy homes, kill animals and cause needless misery.
