She mentioned Caitlyn Jenner. I mentioned how someone who is at the forefront of Republican politics doesn't think Jenner is Republican enough because she's trans. Jenner I mean. People say some awful things about Greene being a trans woman but that sounds transphobic. Anyway we should try to get back on topic.

At the risk of straying too far off the thread topic, if the likes of MTG is at the forefront of Republican politics, then I assume you agree AOC and the Squad are at the forefront of Democrat politics as well?

In terms of the press they both get absolutely - in terms of actual influence in getting bills passed not so much. The most effective people in the house are leadership (well, maybe not Kevin McCarthy) and people who are not household names

What Trompe le Monde said. "Forefront" in the sense that she's a very high profile member of the party. Like Trump is at the forefront, too. Highly visible and highly associated. And yes, AOC is an analog in the Democratic Party.

So what you are saying is that top executives aren't moving to FL? People who are burnt out? If someone is at the top of their game, they don't move somewhere less relevant because they don't like someone else's politics. Peter Thiel, for example, still resides in deepest blue California (though owning property in "blue" Miami) in spite of not agreeing with his neighbors because that is where the action is......most of America's GDP originates from blue states lead by California which is almost triple of Florida (#4, behind New York)  and more than 70% higher than Texas

People who are smart about money don't decide where to live because they need their feelings validated by their neighbor's politics, they go where the money is...

I'm not saying anything, simply posted an article.  Whether or not you want to believe it is not my concern.

"The money" isn't necessarily in NY, where income, sales, and property taxes are among the highest in the US.  Moving from NY to FL can increase one's net worth.  But don't take my word for it.

Quote

Florida received more movers than any other state last year, at 566,476 people, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. New York's outflows to the Sunshine State were the highest – 63,772 people. New York had the third-largest outflows of any state, with 452,580 people moving out within the past year.

Purely anecdotal, but saw this on a forum I was visiting today, no idea whom nor where, exactly.  But the poster seems to not favor CA folks leaving home.

Within the past couple of months, 3 homes in my neighborhood have been bought by residents (DemRats) fleeing the Bay Area..

I'm going to post a sign in my yard, "Don't Californicate Florida" and
Don't come here with your liberal BS.

I agree with you that everyone deserves a chance, and not everyone who leaves Commiefornia is a diehard liberal.  I know several who have left because they feel they are "stuck" in a bad place, and are simply wanting to find a new home that aligns with their beliefs.  Everyone deserves to live in a place where they feel comfortable.

But sometimes, liberals who leave CA want to move to a red state and try to change things to match their mostly liberal views.  That is the thing he fears, I suspect, though I had no interaction with him on the topic.

Perhaps.  Or maybe he doesn't want strangers ruining the life he has come to love where he made his home years ago.

I've been here, in Naples FL, for going on 35 years.  For as long as I have been here there have been people moving here from "up north". Can't tell you how many times we hear "well, up north we did it this way...".  We all roll our eyes and want to say "well, you ain't up north any more..."

So it's a real thing, not just a myth?  Thanks for clearing that up for us.  It really helps to keep us all grounded.

Gov Abbot in TX is on record saying that a majority of the people moving to TX are NOT liberals.  I'm not sure if it is true.
