Hi,

my case is under AP for almost three years not at US embassy montreal. today i got a reply after sending an inquiry. it says something like this --> "This case is currently under review with a consular officer. As soon as the review is complete, the Visa Unit will advise of the next steps to continue processing the case." before i used to get this ---> "Your case is currently under administrative processing. As soon as the administrative processing is complete, the Visa Unit will advise of the next steps and updated documents required to continue processing the case." is it same but different wording or is it a sign or progress?? please help me understand the situation.

Looks similar?

Maybe time for a Writ of Mandamus?

I would not read much into the change of wording in a canned response.

What is the reason for such a long AP?

no, i am from Bangladesh. i was given 221g and a questionnaire to answer.

AP is not uncommon for people from your country.   What does the 221g form say?

Okay.  Presumably they are still in the process of completing the necessary background checks.

i got that. but its really frustrating that it is taking a long time. i dont understand what kind of background checks they are doing?

It can depend on what the criminal record-keeping in your country of origin is like.  For example, in Pakistan, it is not centralized, so there is a lot of additional work that the embassy has to do.  Sometimes vital records (birth certificates, etc) in some countries have not been well kept over the years, so that can cause delays.  If you have travelled to certain countries, that creates extra background checks, etc.

That does seem to be longer than normal.  What type of visa is it for?

Odd for Australians to wait that long.
