Hey guys, so here is my situation, me and my husband filed our taxes married separate because I owed federal tax , so in order to simplify the taxes , we did it separate. And I didn’t get tax return, can I still request a tax return transcript or I have to request a different form ? Thank you

you would have to each request one.

i dont understand though why you wouldnt just file together to pay off the debt. i owe previous taxes and we still file jointly to pay off my debt faster. even though yes, the debt is technically mine, we are married and consider it OURS. its part of being married. at least how WE view it.

We dont get a refund but my husband also makes a really good living (I dont work any more) so its not a big deal (and honestly, if you are doing your taxes correctly, you shouldnt get a refund to begin with, but most people like getting that check...certainly we would but for now the government gets it, which is fine LOL)

And you both paid more doing it that way. Tax rates are higher when you file married filing separately. Did you file electronically? Your tax transcript should be available for download.

It’s late now. We should know better.

For USCIS what matters is that you filed as “married” instead of “single “. Some couples file married separately for financial reasons. As long as you have other evidence of financial comingling, you should be fine.
