Thank you for all your help so far. Here is a condensed version of what is in my petition

 - Usual IDs showing same address

 - Tax transcripts for 2019 & 2020. A few pay slips for 2021 showing same address

 - A few bank statements showing joint account for mortgage, utility bills as well as showing joint savings

 - Health insurance cards showing us both listed

 - 401k plans for both of us with the other as beneficiary

 - Car insurance

 - Flights and selection of hotels

 - Pictures of us

My main concern is shared liabilities. I am not on the mortgage or any bills, we just never got around to it. We do not have any loans or car loans either. Will this hinder my petition?

I think that looks good. I would just make sure that you include evidence since the date of the marriage. I would include all bank statements and all pages since April 2019.

I woud also include oaystubs to show that have the same address listed, that you’re listed as married and to show how long youve been paying for joint health insurance.

If you're listed as emergency contacts anywhere, I would print that and include it.

A B2 visa is an unlikely dream atm as the embassy told me they are not open to normal processing/ appointments and reopening is a TBD.

London issued 26 B1/B2 visas in April and 32 in May so they are processing. But they are notorious for denying those when you have a reason you can’t use VWP.

Pay slips— one from each of you? Do you have anything from previous years. A set from each year?

Car insurance—show some older dates and the current proof of insurance.

A few bank statements showing joint account for mortgage— ??? You said you weren’t on the mortgage, so how do you have a joint account for mortgage? What am I missing?

Flights and selection of hotels— Are both names on this evidence or do you have boarding passes showing you sat next to each other?

Pictures of us— Choose some with friends/family. We chose some that weren’t particularly attractive but showed everyday married life like in paint clothes working on our house, Thanksgiving around dinner table, putting up Christmas decor, and selfie with the cat. And of course one from the trip we provided evidence for.

I was not on the mortgage or deed to either of our houses. All bills were in wife’s name except one so that’s the only one we sent (one from each year). She did not change her name to mine. No car loans, but both names are on the car titles. We even had different mobile phone providers and health insurance at that time. So it’s not impossible to get approved if you have a well organized variety of joint things covering early dates to current.

Here’s my logic on including every single bank statement—. If you have the same bank, same two names, and same account number on 4-5 statements over 2 years, it is safe to assume that you had that account for all the months in between.  What is important is seeing the account is used. A joint savings account with $300 in it that never shows additions or deductions is useless in my opinion.

already have an A number (my previous green card expired and it was conditional - long story so USCIS told me my spouse would need to re file), checked with CBP and apparently not a good idea at all to try the ESTA. I am going to ring the embassy again because they told me on the phone that they are not processing non emergency visas (I wonder if these numbers are emergency cases?). There are no appointments on their website.

I have not included payslips from 19 or 20, the tax return should cover that was my thoughts

Car insurance I have thrown in a cover letter for last year and this year

I am not on the mortgage, although our wages go into a joint account that cover the mortgage along with all other daily expenses, utilities, food, vacations etc

@Reed1812 It is OK to show evidence that is not joint; i.e., that does not have both names on it. For example:

  • the mortgage and the deed of the house. You are not on either, but you still want to show those two because you and your spouse share that address. (Is there homeowner's insurance? You should be listed on it. I would include it)
  • Your name may not be on all utilities. And that is fine but you still want to show those statements because they show the common address.
  • Our phone plan is in my spouse's name. I am an authorized user but the statements only show one name. We included those because they show our address and we pay that out of our joint account.
  • I would definitely include paystubs which show your common address and the breakdown of your paychecks. We included all of them.

It is great that your wages are direct deposited into your joint account. That is very strong evidence. You trust each other with your earnings. So I personally would recommend showing every single statement since the date of the marriage. They want to see the transactions. It's not even that many since April 2019. We included all of our statements since 2017 when we got married.

Anything that you decide to submit, make sure to include all pages of it - including blank pages. As long as the page has a number, include it. Sometimes folks submit the first 2 of 5 pages or the first page and it has caused issues.

I think you may want to read through the directions and decide for yourself how much evidence to submit. It comes down to what you are at peace with. :)

It’s possible that they were all compassionate cases of people with a real need to travel. The embassy has been open and processing visas. They issued 1927 visas in May.

Hi there. Thanks very much for your advice yesterday. Just to update the above in case any one else is having the same issue as I.

I emailed the visa department (not the operator) this time  -The embassy is open but they are operating on reduced opening hours. They did release new appointments in London but for myself this is Feb 2022. They can expedite the interview only for cases of an emergency (for example critical medical care).

seems like I just need to wait it out

One more thing. I see a few people have added their wedding certificate to the ROC.

USCIS had this for my first AOS, is it necessary again?

I didn't include it, and didn't have any issues, but if it gives you any peace of mind, go ahead.

  • Captain Ewok changed the title to Is TONS of evidence really necessary for I-751?

Hello,

I am getting ready to put together my I-751 and after following a few threads here the amount of evidence people are sending seems staggering. One persons package weighed 23lb!

So far I have got all the regular stuff together, finances, insurance, home ownership, trips away etc and I am confident my evidence will be way below 100 pages, maybe even below 50.

Which is right? I cannot help but think overloading and drowning the officers with 1000s of pages of evidence contributes to the problem of how slow the USCIS is.....or am I missing something and my I-751 is insufficient?

Would be interesting to hear how many pages (approx.) you guys sent.

Thanks. Great forum as always.

It's not about number of pages but quality of the supporting documents.  Ask yourself, if I showed this supporting documents to a stranger will they believe my marriages is real?

My best advise is to fill out a price of paper for every single item they suggest in the evidence list - every item.  Even if you do not have the document, create a page with the document title, then state why you don’t have this document.   That are many many real world factual reasons you may not have an item.  Be honest.

These people are just checking off a list and not having a suggested document can get you and RFE.  It did us.   On the RFE, I followed above advice and no other problems.
