This has nothing to do with the US citizenship and everything to do with your other two.

Do they allow you to hold more than two citizenships? Does having a US citizenship cancel out one of the other two?

Let us know your other two and we can start from there.

Also before anyone brings up the renouncing of foreign allegiance bit of the Oath of Allegiance during the naturalization ceremony - that is just that, allegiance. Not citizenship.

Canada and Hungary (EU Passport). Pretty sure neither of those has issues with more than two (I can do digging). I just wanted to see if anyone knows whether or not the U.S. would be like "you can't apply for naturalization and then a passport as you already hold two from other countries..."

I couldn't find anything online saying that but then a coworker said something about them having issues obtaining a U.S. passport since they already hold a passport from Japan and Columbia...

I found this article and like the post above says from PO907 ,  it has to do with the other countries

Just to clarify one thing in the article linked. The author of the article says the following:

Quote

That's true despite the fact that the U.S. naturalization oath requires you to renounce all foreign citizenships.

This is false. The Oath is this:

I do solemnly swear that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince or potentate, state or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject of citizen.

"Allegiance" and "Citizenship" are not mutually exclusive. Also if it were required, documentation of the renouncing of your citizenship would be part of the application for naturalization. Which it isn't.

This is almost certainly due to the Japanese passport. Japan has very strict laws about dual citizenship.

it does not say you can not have citizenship from another country

Dual nationals owe allegiance to both the United States and the foreign country. They are required to obey the laws of both countries, and either country has the right to enforce its laws.

Did your coworker get a US passport or not?

I know someone who was born a UK citizen, added Israeli citizenship, and then naturalized to the US.

They still haven't. I'm starting to think their case is more convoluted maybe since I'm seeing multiple people online saying having more than one other Passport and a U.S. passport is a non-issue...

Perhaps this person holds a green card and between getting the green card and filing for US citizenship, acquired a second citizenship. Depending how that citizenship was acquired, I can certainly imagine USCIS would consider if that person abandoned US LPR status.

Also I just remembered I know at least one other who had dual citizenship who naturalized to US citizenship:

1. UK (born there)

2. Canada (naturalized)

3. USA (naturalized)

and oh yeah, Elon Musk is the most famous triple citizen who naturalized.  Natural born South African and Canadian.  Given he makes rockets for the US government you can be certain the US has no laws against triple citizenship

It depends on the exact countries involved. It is 100% a non-issue IF and only if all countries involved allow multiple citizenship. Each individual country has their own laws about it. I'm Canadian too so I know for sure it's a non-issue for us. It's most likely not an issue with Hungary as well, but you'll have to Google/research that to make sure.

That has nothing to do with getting US citizenship. Holding Japanese passport doesn't affect in any way in getting US citizenship.

Issues may be related to other areas like not satisfying continuous or physical residency or other requirements, definitely not due to having other two citizenship.
