Hey guys, I married my long time girlfriend 2 months ago and she currently lives overseas. I filed I-130 petition for her, but I want to bring her daughter as well (she’s 7 years old) but I’m not sure how this process works. Do I need to file separate I-130 as I did for my wife? If yes - do I file it as a stepdad or through my wife? Please guide me through this process. I will very much appreciate your feedback. Thank you in advance

If you are a US citizen, you have to file a separate I-130 for the child.

Senior Master Sergeant, US Air Force- Retired (after 20+ years)- Missile Systems Maintenance & Titan 2 ICBM Launch Crew Duty (200+ Alert tours)

Registered Nurse- Retired- I practiced in the areas of Labor & Delivery, Home Health, Adolescent Psych, & Adult Psych.

IT Professional- Retired- Web Site Design, Hardware Maintenance, Compound Pharmacy Software Trainer, On-site go live support, Database Manager, App Designer.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Also, your step-daughter's dad (if alive) will have to be on board regarding his daughter immigrating to the US.
