Only the embassy knows what they are doing. All I know is that there’s no way so many people had 10 year B-1/b-2 visas that expired during the pandemic.

I know, we only have a little bit of data to speculate with and a lot of time to think about it. It appears that the tiered priority schedule is a bit subjective and widely varies by embassy/consulate.

Just trying to make some sense of it and not go crazy--not sure how well I'm doing on either. I appreciate the discussion though and getting feedback from others in the same boat.

Interview Waiver Program (IWP) is available at the US embassy in Ghana, for renewal of B1/B2 visas expired within the past 48 months.  The criteria on expiration date was extended recently, so not only those expired during the pandemic are eligible.  Visa processing under IWP would have no impact on the availability of interview slots for CR1/IR1 or K1 cases.
