Hello,

I have been looking at the K-1, CR-1, and IR-1 visa issuance in Accra comparing pre-COVID (Jan 2019-May 2019) to Jan 2021-May 2021 of this year. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-statistics/immigrant-visa-statistics/monthly-immigrant-visa-issuances.html and https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-statistics/nonimmigrant-visa-statistics/monthly-nonimmigrant-visa-issuances.html

  Jan-19 Jan-21 Feb-19 Feb-21 Mar-19 Mar-21 Apr-19 Apr-21 May-19 May-21
K1 23 1 6 9 19 22 22 34 22 4
CR1 109 2 66 5 78 6 68   67
IR1 130 24 94 112 99 75 74 38 91 29

From looking at the numbers, it looks like K1 and CR1s picked up for awhile (Feb-April 2021) but CR1s have not. My question is what happened in May 2021? I realize this is limited information, but I wonder why there was a decline in May 2021 from Feb-April 2021? And why are CR-1 issuance been so low comparatively?

My K-1 visa has been at NVC since beginning of April 2020. I figure I was about 2 weeks away from having my application sent to the Accra consulate before they shutdown due to COVID. Has anyone had their visa application sent to the Accra consulate from NVC since they began resuming interviews on a limited basis? I'm purely speculating, but I wonder if that has anything to due with the decline in the May K-1s and other visa issuances.

The most recent visa approvals on VJ are from April 2021, so it is difficult to know what is happening and what months are being processed.

It would be interesting to hear other people's take on the recent visa issuance numbers or any other insights.

Some CR-1s turned into IR-1s during the process because it took so long.

Thanks, that makes sense why the CR1s would be lower.

I don't think I stated this clearly, although just one month of data, I'm wondering if the drop off in May visa issuance could be due to clearing the backlog at the consulate but not asking for more visa applications. Obviously, there is a huge backlog so how does, for example, K-1 visa issuance go from 34 in April 2021 to 4 in May 2021? Interesting and frustrating...

The CR1’s turned into IR1’s. The embassy in Ghana has not requested any family petitions from the NVC, so April and May 2020 folks are all still sitting at the NVC

The embassy is done with the cases that are with them before closure of the embassy in March 2020. They have refused to take cases that are at the NVC. That is why there is a decline in May this year, they don't have any case to work on. They just don't care about spouses of U.S citizens and K1s

I've often wondered the same thing?  I was curious on how you are aware they are done processing waiting, or cancelled appointments, I've been trying to get an update on those appointments but have yet to find any information. On the embassy's site, they have since Feb  been advising that they are processing Visa's , yet Nvc continues to say they have not requested cases to be sent over. I see the ambassador is out planting trees, opening Domino's pizza's in Accra, if the country is able to conduct business semi normal to precovid, I can't see the justification in not beginning to request visas from NVC, perhaps send some of the employees that are helping plant trees back to the office, to actually work would be nice lol. Ghana is back to a level 1 advisory, business have been open and limitations have been lifted  for quite a while now.  I've be dq'd since Feb 2020. I received a letter stating the interview would be scheduled shortly, then they closed March 17th 2020, over a year and half later...still nothing :(

Exactly. And I'll add that ambassador celebrated the re-launch of United Airlines flight from D.C. to Accra. I imagine there will be some empty seats if visas aren't being issued.

From the outside perspective, there seems to be no apparent reason for a slowdown in May--it should be ramping up not slowing down.  I believe I saw on a post that the Nigeria embassy was requesting applications from NVC. The only reason I think of for the plummet in visa issuances in May is they are not asking for more visa applications.  There should be more transparency in what is happening, I think we deserve at least that.

I'm really aware of what's going on with our embassy. They are done rescheduling visa appointments that were canceled last year. Now what's left is for them to request cases from NVC, and they are not doing so. For your information, they are rather scheduling interviews for DV lottery winners. That's their priority now. I don't know what CR1 /IR1 have done to them. Maybe they don't care about how this is affecting us negatively.

That is not accurate. There are still some in our groups whose interviews were scheduled for January but got canceled. Some are still waiting for interviews….

Well, they are just slower than all get out! Nigeria whos population is larger, I believe,  is just killing it with there appointments, Not sure why Ghana is soooo far behind, if this unfortunate person is still waiting from January, there might be for them to look into.. there have been people reschedule from February and March, Jan...they missed him some kind of way.  :( But thanks for the info, thats good to know.

I didn't see any DV visas for this Jan-May 2021. Maybe they are scheduling DVs now (Jun/July) but this would go against the tiered priority system if they are focused solely on them. But then again, I don't understand why they aren't asking for applications from NVC, so it makes sense that they might be focused on another group. There are a lot of B1/B2s being processed but I don't know if that affects CR1s/IR1s/K1s. I agree that it looks like there are still IR1 interviews being scheduled but they are drying up and the visas numbers are way down compared to Feb/March of this year.

The embassy started scheduling the DV winners  since June.
