Indian birth certificate for K1 consulate interview

My birth certificate is from India. Its both in English and native language (Gujarati), moreover its even laminated. Did anyone submit similar BC from India for purpose of K1 visa and can you confirm how did it go for them. I have my interview at Montreal next month and want to make sure it will be accepted. From what I read for U.S. Visa: Reciprocity and Civil Documents by Country > India, it seems to be the right document issued by Municipality of the state but would like to get some thoughts/experience from members here.

Mine is from Karnataka and written in Kannada and my parents got an english translation version for when we moved to Sydney - I included both in my petition and my lawyer said that is all that's needed. If you have already got through the adjudication process and been approved and have your interview already scheduled I'd say that is fine and you are good to go

Just food for thought. You should never laminate important documents for a few different reasons, namely:

 

• Some documents have security features built into the paper they are printed on and lamination could render these useless
• Lamination prevents the detection of an embossed (raised) stamp
• The shine from lamination sheets can make it difficult to photocopy as the light from the machine glares against the plastic

Thanks for your response but was your BC even laminated. Actually that's how I got from the municipality just want to be sure it would be ok.

Agreed, but this is how I got it from the issuing place. Hopefully they accept it!!

My fiance just got approved for his K1 visa at Mumbai. His birth certificate was issued by a local government agency in Maharashtra. He had to include a translation, since some parts of the original birth certificate were only in Marathi, but he did the translation himself and included a statement from him certifying the translation was complete and accurate.

 

This was accepted at the consulate, so my guess is what you described would be accepted too. In any case, good luck!
