Good afternoon, I am at the NVC stage now applying for my mom and I feel so lost trying to do this Form I-864. I make enough income so I don't want to use my husband as my joint sponsor because I just want to do less paper work. We file jointly. I don't understand how to find my actual income for last year in the tax retur. I don't know what is better to submit if the tax return from Turbo tax or the IRS ones. IRS blocked me for 24 hours when I was trying to prove my identity. I don't know what other evidencie should I submit. I don't know if I should submit just the last year or the last three years. I get overwhelmed with all these papers and I don't want to confuse my mom when I have to send all the papers either. I saw the tax return in Turbo Tax for the year 2018 and It is more than 100 pages 🤯.  Please if someone who has done the NVC this year can guide me I would appreciate it.

I know this is difficult, but I will keep trying. It will work because, this distance is nothing compared to our love.

Use the IRS transcript. Less paperwork.

Use your joint return. You have already filed and trying to separate out you income now will cause more headache for you.

They need taxes for the last year, submitting more than that is a personal preference but stronger case to show your income.

To reduce your stress level, start from the top, forget about the rest of the forms. finish with the first item before going to the next. One thing at a time and you will discover that it is really very easy. Don't try to read too much meaning into it. Just respond to each item/question fully then go to the next one.

Thanks. I am trying to get the IRS taxes but they blocked me for 24 hours because I couldn't prove my identity.

Yeah, I am going to use my husband as a join sponsor.

Do you think I need to submit W2s for all the three years or just for the last year? Do I need more evidence?

When submitting tax info, you submit "tax transcript" OR "tax return and W2".

You can submit just the last year filed or the last 3 years. The choice is up to you. The form clearly states that year 2 and 3 are optional

Thanks. I just got the transcripts from the IRS. So to make sure since I got the transcripts from the IRS, I don't need the W2s? Sorry for asking the same question over and over. I just want to make sure I do it right.

You need to submit your W2 + 1099 forms as well because you file MFJ but are not including your spouse's income.

From the I-864 instructions, page 8 -- https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-864instr.pdf

"If you provide a photocopy of your Federal individual income tax returns, you must include a copy of each and every Form W-2 and Form 1099 that relates to your returns. Do not include copies of these forms if you provide an IRS transcript of your Federal individual income tax returns rather than a photocopy unless you filed a joint income tax return with your spouse and are qualifying using only your income."

Also, note that even if your income alone is enough to sponsor, some consul officers may require a signed I-864A from your spouse anyway, especially since you file MFJ.  Here's a recent example --
