Our interview would have been right before covid hit and it would have been three months after biometrics.

When I AOSed back in 2019 it took us nearly five weeks to get the first NOAs. For most people it took them two weeks. We were thinking they’d lost the package, and then when we finally received them, we thought our case was going to take at least 10 months. Had biometrics the first week of December, and our interview was scheduled for March 18 (five days after the pandemic hit ). Finally, against all expectations, our interview was waived and case was approved.

Also, for most people it was taking 5-6 months to get the combo card after bio. For me it took exactly two months.

My point is that there is really no rhyme and reason with USCIS, especially after covid. So tell your friend to relax and do what they have to do.

Since I was approved for expedite, took about 5 months after the initial application.

Is this adjustment after entering with a k1? There is the possibility that the interview could be waived. That happened to me (Durham NC office). I'm not sure how much it would affect the timeline (I assume to waive an interview USCIS still need to have examined the case in detail, so if there is a backlog where you are its still likely to take some time). I'm assuming that waivers are more likely where you're from a low fraud country, similar age and background to spouse etc.

They went for a few years without waiving interviews, then started waiving some of them when USCIS offices closed temporarily during covid in 2020.   Now it seems that they’re back to in-person interviews for nearly everyone.
