(1) Universities are not democracies.  (2) These points seem sensible.

How College COVID Vaccine Mandates Put Students In Danger

by Bostom, et al. - July 5, 2021

[...] We think that these [mandatory Covid vaccination] mandates are unethical, chiefly because they indiscriminately require administering an experimental biological agent in the setting of a clinical investigation to a population that is at greater risk of harm from the drug than from COVID.  Our advice to schools that have not yet adopted vaccine mandates is: don't.

But where participation in the investigational vaccination program is nevertheless required by university policies, there must be sensible, medically sound policies for granting medical exemptions.  [...]

If we're still speaking metaphorically, your meth addict analogy would certainly explain the anti-vaxxers. :)

Not really sure they are anti-vaxxers in the classical sense of the word.  Given the fact that these are still experimental, and the fact that those that recovered from Covid19 are completely ignored is very telling.  I know many folks that are still very reluctant to get an experimental vaccine and many of those are hardcore Democrats as well as hardcore Republicans.  Personally, I am not against it, heck we put a lot of stuff inside our bodies, but I can understand people, especially those that had Covid19, saying why do we need this.  There are a lot in the medical community that agree with them that I am sure will be labeled as anti-vaxxers by the likes of the Reverend Fauci, but the science is not settled.

Uh-huh. The very same people who are calling the vaccine experimental (it's not) and demanding more evidence are the same people who were hawking hydroxychloroquine and bleach, and calling covid no worse than a cold or the flu. I put no validity on these so-called concerns.

When did the FDA give any of the Covid vaccines full approval?  As to the other stuff, I think it is just the Left that are pushing those, but if your Dr. advised you to use hydroxychloriquine (I assume no Dr. would advise ingesting bleach) would you would pull out your medical degree and contradict them?

Regardless, you did not address the largest population of those unwilling to get vaccinated now, those that either had Covid19 recently, or those in the younger demographic that are not nearly impacted by it.

If my doctor advised me to use hydroxychloriquine to treat covid, I'd find another doctor and file a complaint to whoever you file doctor complaints with. Fortunately my doctor would almost certainly not do that, although to be fair I haven't asked him; so maybe after years of handing out competent science-based medical advice, he's finally cracked, I don't know. In any case, our former President DID push hydroxychloriquine and the very same people who are so very very concerned about evidence and the FDA are the same people who rallied around hydroxychloriquine, despite a complete lack of evidence or FDA approval. So again, I find these concerns to be disingenuous and partisan.

You can find more information about FDA approval with a few quick google searches. Pro-tip: use site:fda.gov and/or site:cdc.gov in your search.

Don’t use Google, but a quick search in another search engine showed that the FDA has not provided full approval to any vaccine as of yet, so not really sure where you are getting your information.  As to the other stuff, whatever, considering the amount of contradictory science out there, I am not sure anyone has the answers, certainly not the Us government.

I didn't say the FDA had approved the vaccine(s). I said you should read up and understand why, and that might put your mind at ease as to why FDA approval isn't the big deal it's being made out to be.

There is no contradictory science out there. There is science, and there is disinformation. The spreaders of disinformation like to call it contradictory science.

There are a lot of reasons why these vaccines are still only authorized for emergency experimental use (see Covid19 thread).  That being said, how can any government institution like a state university mandate them?

It seems obvious to me. We don't want universities to turn into massive covid incubation farms, and we don't want people to die or become sick. Also, who doesn't want free 5G? ;)

Isn’t there already a lot of information from the college age group that shows little impact to those that have no pre-existing conditions?  Additionally, a lot of college students already had Covid, so why would they also need the vaccine especially if their Dr. advises against it?  I am still not seeing the science as to why those that have natural immunity are not counted.

There's lots of rationalization going around that's straight up spin and politics, like cherry picking data about representative age groups. But those very same people who are cherry picking facts and figures are the same people who were unquestioningly demanding hydroxychloriquine to cure covid. So again, I find these arguments disingenuous and partisan. If you want to manage your own health based on politics, then ok I guess. Just don't expect the rest of us to accomodate you. When I send my child to a public institution, they should have a reasonable expectation of not dying just because some of their fellow students are avid Fox News consumers.

Also, a prediction: When FDA approval does come (likely later this year), the goal posts will once again be moved. Guaranteed.
