Conflict of Interest Form for Employee

Timeline

I work one shop in Mall North Carolina. I started job from this month. My boss said me you have to sign form Conflict of Interest. I said why he said if you left job then you cannot be work this mall any shop's. I am not understand what is this. Other this is illegal forced not can be work other mall shop?

Timeline

It sounds like your boss is trying to make you sign a non-compete agreement. (You might want to google that term.)  If you refuse to sign it, most likely your boss can fire you on the spot.  If you do sign it, you might get problems later when you try to change jobs, your boss might try to sue you.  My advice:

  1. Before you sign, have somebody you trust look at this agreement, ideally a lawyer.
  2. If you are a simple shop clerk, that non-compete agreement would probably not be enforceable in court.  They might still try to threaten or harass you if you try to change jobs.
  3. Don't plan on staying in that job for long.  They seem to be a!@#$%es.

I can understand non-compete agreements for white collar workers, especially those in management positions, but for jobs like working in a mall, such a document is ridiculous and is a red flag for an overcontrolling employer.

Thanks for replied. When I will be get form Conflict of Interest then will be show any friend or lawyer who has knowledge this otherwise not sign any paper without understand.

Thanks for replied. Just a simple job as Sales man and sign the paper. This totally not understand that's why asked on this platform.
