Sometimes People forget things, sometimes it is not important in there country. Just days before I filled my I-129 my now wife told me, she thinks she is still  legally married. but they where separated for 16 years. In Colombia many people life together, have children, and play family all there life, without legal marriage. I think she assumed, moving to the US is another life. Where the old marriage did not count. Another hurdle we had to cross.

We provided our divorce decree paperwork from both of our previous marriage. So it’s not an issue of forgetting about being married prior. Lol. I have asked and we were very Thorough with our application file (thanks to everyone on Visa Journey).

Looks very much like your long AP is for the travel he has done and how long he was in each one as it matters

and the old photo is to check an old passport to see if he was in any other countries not listed

and AP for these security take months not weeks (many months)

the best part is the CO did not outright say denied but is checking / that is hopeful

Hmmm. Thank you.

I suppose that makes sense. I just think it’s odd, like people aren’t supposed to travel and have vacations? I believe each vacation was somewhere around a week but no more than 12 days.  I’d have to break out the file again to double check.

Hopefully it wouldn’t be an issue for a denial.

Best guess is the old photo if for biometric identification. Facial recognition happens everywhere all the time and is not always accurate. They may be checking to see if he used forged documents, fake names, etc. Or they could just think he is handsome and wonder what he looked like when he was younger. Point is we could guess all day but we will not know.

WOM is a double edged sword. It means the govt has to make a decision. If his background checks are not complete they will deny it because legally the cannot approve it. It took us two years three trips to Ankara (him alone) to get his visa.

The countries you listed (i believe but have been wrong before)  are not much of an issue

but they will look into an old passport to see if he traveled from any of those to one that is suspect / has been done before that some one travels to one country but goes to another from there that does not require a visa for him

Lagos does extra verification for Nigerian divorces due to people presenting fraudulent divorce decrees. Several people get stuck in AP in Lagos for over a year because of divorce decrees. The WOM maybe able to get them to finish looking at your case. Few people have used Jim Hacking. Good luck.

Hmm.......    From what you've said, I can't think of a good reason for their request for an old photo.   Haven't seen that before.  Please keep us updated on your case, and best of luck.

They previously asked for Identification from 10 to 15 years due to the immigrant visa ban as a way to verify applicants identity and so they could qualify for the waiver.

Well,

That’s exhausting. I can’t fathom why it would take a year to review a divorce decree but at this point on the 6th of July we are six months post interview/turn in of 221g items so half way through…..

Given that the ban itself is no longer applicable are we held to those standards because of when we filed?

Not sure what the deals is but not ban related.

Because they have to go to the actual high court to verify the document. It's unfair but it's just kinda how it is. People have filed WOM to get the embassy to finally process their case or just continue to wait for them to finally get around to it.

Probably because at the time when he had his interview the ban was still being followed and they put him in AP and didn't take the time to re-visit your case. Currently they are supposed to be reviewing all cases that were previously impacted by the ban. It's just taking even longer due to them being under staffed.

Okay. Well thank you for your advice and information.

The 15 year identity requirement is not on the US Travel site for Visa interview preparation but they do state to check your local Consulate/ Embassy site as they may have specific requirements.

😉 That's how I saw the additional requirements on Nigerian Consulate site. So many different places to look to ensure you're covered. I spend hours just looking through websites and interestingly I find something new each time.

It's hard, but you're closer to the finish line than the starting line. Praying 🙏🏿 your stress decreased and peace increases.
