I am approaching the date to file my N400. I think I have seen this somewhere before, but am I able to file the N400 whilst the ROC is still processing?

Yep, I just did too! Good luck :)

Anyone in this thread with Seattle, WA as your local USCIS processing office? I read somewhere that filing an N-400 before receiving ROC approval may set back the processing further by another year or two. Thoughts?

Thanks for writing back.

I filed in Seattle and am still waiting for an interview, but I moved states since,  hence it is not my local office anymore at this point - either way, I have never heard that, where did you read that? I can't imagine why it would, I always thought if anything filing for N400 leads potentially sooner to an approval/ combo interview since they do work on the N400 more, at least that was my impression from visajourney. I hope very much this is not true.

In general, they can't adjudicate your N400 before the 751. Some people passed N400 interview but still have to wait for a long time to get it fully approved. Though those are rare.

Not sure why you are quoting me, I am fully aware of the fact that N-400 can't be officially approved before the ROC, and didn't indicate otherwise. I was responding to Gaps post above because I filed at the same local office. Filing for N400 while the ROC is pending is very standard though, and in many offices they do combo interviews. I've not heard of it being a problem so I am wondering where they got that info from.

Hi Catseal thank you for responding to my post, I appreciate it.

I am on a holding pattern until I become eligible for naturalization next month, I did read around the VJ threads about N400 applications prolonging the ROC processing especially in Seattle. So that is giving me reservations about submitting an N400 before my ROC gets a decision.

My ROC is in the LIN processing center.

Thank you again for writing in.

Cheers,

I’m LIN victim too :D, I submitted my N-400 once my eligibility window opened (still waiting). My Local office is Portland, seems to be processing at about the same pace as Seattle. Either way both seem faster than LIN, I figured I’d rather take my chances than wait ~17+ months at best for ROC approval.
Check the Seattle N-400 thread on some people have had combo interview for ROC + N-400

Well, I hope not 😱 . I moved to Washington state 8 month ago and guessing my local office is now Seattle. I filed I-751 in July 2021, got an RFE in April 2022 and just today filed my N-400. Will keep you posted!

I will be following your footsteps then Colorred 😁 but I don't think we should consider ourselves victims.

My cousin just had her Naturalization ceremony in Portland and she lives in Seattle. Her N400 was filed exactly 12 months ago.

Thank you for writing in.

Hi guys -- I've just started filling out my N400 today and I have a question about moving in the past 3 months question in eligibility criteria and mailing address.

My wife and I bought a house last month but we haven't officially moved into the house yet because we are working on house projects to get it ready. So we are still living in the apartment that we have a lease on until the end of August 31. We haven't changed cities and even the county of both of these places is the same. Saying that, do I say "yes" to the fact that we have moved in the past 3 months and subsequently give our new home address which will be official in August or should I give the apartment address where we still are residing and change the address later?? Thoughts?

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if tax transcripts are required for the initial upload of evidence for online N-400 application?

I realize many of you in the thread are awaiting the slow updates from LIN and have already qualified to file for N-400 naturalization.

To those who have filed an N-400 while I-751 is still pending, we would appreciate your response.

Hey, yes you need the tax transcripts in the initial upload. we included tax transcripts since 2018-to most recent.
figured better to front load the application than lessen probability for a RFE
Hope that helps.

Good morning everyone,

The day has come. We have filed for N400 online and for those yet to file, the additional evidence required are:

 - Past 3 years IRS documents showing you have filed/paid tax

 - Passport scan of your U.S. citizen spouse

 - Joint financial documents, bank accounts, credit cards

 - Insurance documents, life, property, auto

 - Other evidence

For the tax documents I only scanned my 1040 returns for 2021, 2020, and 2019, I plan to get tax transcripts for myself and my spouse at a later date when an interview is scheduled, because that's when you'll possibly need it (in this regard, consider signing up an ID.me + IRS account so you can request transcripts online).

For the joint financial documents we scanned a selection of joint bank account statements, 3 months for 2022 (June, May, April), 2021 (July, June, May), 2020 (July, June, May), 2019 (July, June, May), 2018 (July, June, May) - note we scanned these and uploaded as one file - we assumed that we had to show joint financial documents since marriage.

We also scanned credit cards, FSA cards, health insurance cards, and uploaded as one file.

The only other evidence we uploaded is a selection of photographs from date of marriage to about last month when we had a wedding in the family.

The confirmation of application fee payment was immediate by email.

USCIS confirmation of receipt of application still to come.

Our local office is in Seattle, WA.

Cheers,

G&A

Thanks for sharing this with us @Gaps0214 Just to confirm, is it mandatory to upload photographs taken together with US citizen spouse during online application or you can just take them with you during interview?

Hi Steve3990,

Mandatory upload for scans of Green Card and Marriage Certificate. I'm applying for naturalization from AOS, marriage to a US citizen. It could be different for others who are applying as a family member or from K1/IR/CR visas.

After those uploads, the online N400 application has yellow warning notes about uploading other documents to ensure a smooth processing, but they do also indicate that you can choose to bring the other document evidence during the naturalization interview. We decided we will front load the documents, and we intend to bring other documentation such as IRS tax transcripts among others.

Hope this helps you.

Cheers,

G&A
