Stepchild exempt from covid travel ban?

Hi all,

 

I am an Irish citizen presently in the US with my wife who is a US citizen. We are awaiting my travel document as part of my green card application and as such am unable to leave the country. The problem is I have a 10 year old son back in Ireland who I haven’t seen since early December due to the green card process. 
 

I am wondering if he, as stepson to my wife, would be exempt from the proclamation and be able to travel over to me? I’ve been reading conflicting information online so I said I’d come here to see if someone could set the record straight.

Hello, yes your son could visit because he is the stepson of a US citizen to enter the US as long as he had a negative COVID-19 test.  The 2 issues we were facing with Ireland are now gone, non-essential travel (custodial rights are now essential) and hotel quarantine when returning to Ireland which is not required now.  With all of that said I think your problem will be that he is 10 and there is not an airline coming to the US that will allow him to fly as an unaccompanied minor until he is 12.  Just for reference when your son is old enough to fly alone I can highly recommend AerLingus, they have been amazing when my stepson travels over to us. Best of luck and hope you get to see your son soon.
