Biometric appointment after getting getting certificate of citizenship

I filed for my son’s N600 Feb 24,2021, It got approved pretty quickly and oath ceremony (certificate collection) was scheduled for March 29, 2021 without a biometric appointment. Surprisingly I got a mail today for a biometric appointment sometimes towards end of July. Has this happened to anyone else to have a biometric appointment after getting a certificate of citizenship?

I presume the CoC already has a photo of him on it?
I would just return the bio notice stating you already have the CoC.

Yes it does. I filed online and uploaded his passport photo which is also the same one on the CoC. Thank you for your reply.

Ok, that’s interesting info, that they used that! I am guessing he already had a passport if the approval came so quickly - so (speculating) they probably compared the photos via software to verify the same person.

No he didn’t have a passport, I applied for his passport after getting the CoC. However, he didn’t arrive US as a GC holder though, I filed their GC after him and his mom arrived here on K1/K2 less than 2 years (he had a biometric then too maybe that’s why) from when I applied for his N600.

Ah, ok. They would have had to have a biometric on file to compare afaik, so that would explain it. You are lucky he got such quick approval.

I was wondering the same thing but wasn’t sure, thank you. Yea I was thinking it would take at least 6 months but was happily excited when I saw the approval. I was counting on his US passport to arrive even sooner since we submitted a CoC but I was wrong, that is still yet to arrive and it’s been almost 4 months already.

I did my kid’s pre pandemic and had the opposite experience! It sat for a few months and then when I got her passport I uploaded that as additional evidence, and the CoC got approved very soon after that.

Now that everything is kind of getting back to normal, hopefully it arrives soon. Thank you!

I can tell you it was an oversight they don't have his biometric captured as a new citizen. You need to let them know, there must be a mixed up somewhere, this is a country where they dig things when they are ready.... let them know so your son can be properly document, don't let them ask you or anyone close to you later how it happened and never let them know.

Thanks for replying. Yea I called uscis and the case inquiry was escalated but unfortunately they won’t get back to me until about 20 days (past the appointment date). I’ve decided to just take him to the appointment anyways since it wouldn’t hurt.

Yes, you are doing the right thing...absolutely won't hurt nothing, they can figure out the rest with the case escalation. Y'all be safe out there!

Thank you very much, you too!

We’ve finally received his passport. Thought I update you on it, thanks.

You were right bro. We were at the appointment today and was told sometimes people get the CoC before the biometric appointment but he definitely needed to be captured as a new citizen. Thank you!
