Hello,

My wife and I just saw on our online account that her biometrics appointment has been set. Now we are just waiting for the letter in the mail.  This is after going through the K1 process, marrying, and applying for AOS. What’s next after biometrics and an approximate timeline for what follows?

Thanks for your help!

After the biometrics you wait some more. How long that depends on your local field office. You can check the processing times at the USCIS homepage.

So my understanding is it goes: biometrics, interview, then green card?

Thanks for the replies. When can she legally change her name and get a new passport and IDs with her new name?

You should have already been doing this

YMMV

The marriage certificate usually is used as a name change document

Were the forms filed using her maiden or married name?

Forms were filled in with her “new” name (my last name). Should we bring the certificate to her country’s consulate here in Denver to get a new passport?

So we can bring the marriage certificate to the Austrian consulate and have it changed?

You (or her) should spend some time on the Austrian consulate’s webpage and look at service for citizens, particularly the “marriage” and “law on first name and family names” part in civil status and family section. If you’re going to register your marriage with Austria, you’d have the marriage certificate apostilled - which is a more formal type of notary by your state to make the document recognized in international jurisdictions that require apostilles.
