Ours is 24 days before our 2nd anniversary and I thought the same but I'm way too much of a nervous Nelly to try and reschedule, lol! Can you update on what you decide to do and how it goes? Just curious. :)

While you may be enticed to get the GC right now and not delay a bit, you will be saving yourself from next 2-4 years worth of hassle by rescheduling it now. Add  extended N400 time as well in case of lengthy i751.

My wife's visa interview was scheduled 1 month before our 2 year anniversary. My wife was like "if i have the visa on hand, i ain't waiting a month to come to the US just to get the 10 year GC". So i emailed the US embassy Nepal to reschedule the interview any day after our 2nd anniversary. In overall her interview was delayed by 2 months but was worth it. My wife acknowledges it now that we avoided the ROC process.

An update:

  • I sent in a request to reschedule via live chat on July 8th with the reason being having no proof of citizenship as my certificate of naturalization was sent for the passport application.
  • On July 15th, the website updated with "your request to have your appointment reschedule, referral number XXXXXXXXX, was completed." I was very excited, waited for 10 days for something to arrive in the mail, but nothing arrived.
  • Contacted USCIS again, and they see on their end: "Your request for an interview reschedule was forwarded to appropriate unit for review and consideration"
  • On July 27th, I received my passport, no sign of the original certificate of naturalization so far
  • Interview was schedule for August 9th, contacted USCIS on the Friday before and nothing changed regarding the reschedule.
    • The agent said I'm free to not show up at the interview since I requested a reschedule
    • But I decided to go and avoid any issues with no shows etc.
  • Interviewer almost refused to take in the interview because I only had a copy of the certificate of naturalization (somehow a US passport is not good enough as citizenship proof for this IO!)
  • She decided to do the interview anyway, a lot of rapid fire questions, went through all (and I mean literally all) I485 questions at such speed and authoritarian manner, I'm glad my wife did not crack under such pressure
    • She even started asking my wife to define what money laundering, polygamy and other things in the questionnaire meant!
  • The interview ends:
    • She hands us a paper and says it might take 120 days to get an answer, and that we should not travel outside of the US
    • I asked if we can get an I-551 stamp: she responded we are not approved yet to get that stamp
    • I asked if she can possibly delay this approval for 11 days (our second marriage anniversary) and explained it's to avoid ROC.
      • She was amused but said she can't do anything as it's not for her to approve the application.
  •
  • A few hours later, status changed to card is being produced
  •  We are very grateful the GC was approved the same day of course, so that's great news 🎉.

So in conclusion, we gave it a shot: tried to reschedule and tried to ask explicitly for delaying decision by 11 days... didn't work. If you can tolerate a few months of delays, I think you should give rescheduling a shot if you're in the same boat.

Congratulations on getting your GC! We've been waiting for our interview to be scheduled for over 2 years now and we finally have an interview next month!

I have a question for you please if you don't mind since it looks like it took them a while as well to interview you. Did you need to submit an updated i-864 during the interview, or was it ever brought up? I'm asking because since it has been over 2 years since we filed, some income information has changed. We now make more but the intending immigrant (me) makes most of it so I'd need to be on the form if we have to submit a new one. Any input will be greatly appreciated and thanks a lot!

We actually got the interview after 10 months of filing (filed October 2020) so I can't really answer your question. But no we were not asked anything except originals of IDs birth and marriage certificates etc. In addition to wedding photos (which they didn't keep) and tax returns for the past 3 years.

Thank you so much for your reply! I think maybe the past 3 years of tax returns might have been to confirm that part. Did they look into these tax returns in details and look at the different numbers; or just to quickly see that you file taxes jointly?

It took USCIS exactly 27 months to give us an interview date since we first filed. We finally have the interview coming up next month but a lot of our information on the original form I-864 has changed and I'm just trying to see whether maybe they've already approved this form and won't need it again, or whether they'll ask us for a new one. My wife who's sponsor me recently lost her job due to COVID and even though I'm working "the intending immigrant" I'm not sure whether they'll accept my income or not but I'll put it on an updated form and take it with us to the interview just in case. It's kind of not a good situation I know..

I do appreciate your help and getting back to with this reply! Congrats again and I hope y'all have a great rest of your day!
