From an immigration perspective,  nothing he can do.  He is no longer eligible for the visa.

YMMV

Okay, is he suppose to report to NVC or USCIS?

The petition will expire on its own.

USCIS is done with the process so they are no longer involved.  He always could contact NVC but not required.

YMMV

Oh my, that is horrible and I'm sorry to hear about that! Yes , his visa request is no longer applicable as the application includes both parties :( He should absolutely contact NVC.  If he is still wanting to immigrate, they would to need a new file Visa application, most likely in a new category.  He maybe and that is a BIG maybe as he is not immediate family yet, they have not married , request an emergency visa interview to attend the funeral but the qualifications state it has to be an immediate family member.

This sounds oddly familiar......   didn't you just post this same story a couple of days ago?  That thread received good advice.  No need to post multiple times.

Any visa he could get to attend the funeral would not be an immigrant visa.  What category do you suggest he would qualify for an immigrant visa in?

It wasn’t me, probably by him. Thanks for letting me know.
