Hi Everyone, starting this thread for all July 2021 Fillers.

Looking forward to all our updates!

Thanks

H

Sent my AOS package today June 30. Will update once I get NOA’s via text or email.

Thank you for this thread

i am actually a bit confused about the process after you get married and obtain your marriage certificate.
I heard you can apply for EAD separate without AOS and that way it’s quicker to get your work permit but you’ll end up paying some extra fees.
is this a real thing ?
Or is it better to apply for AOS and EAD at the same time ?
Thanks for any feedback or thoughts about it.

Yes, it's a real thing -- for those with non-immigrant status authorized to work, like refugee/asylee, F1 student with practical training.  Those admitted with B2 status are not authorized to work, so not eligible to apply for EAD if not based on AOS.

Thank you @Chancy

I’m currently in the US with K-1 visa status and all this information has confused me a lot now.
I think I will go back and re-read all instructions again.
Thank you for your time though.

Ah.  K1 visa holders are actually eligible to apply for EAD without AOS.  That would be EAD under category (a)(6), which, frankly, is utterly pointless.  Filing would not be free and processing would not necessarily be faster.  If you somehow get the EAD quickly, it would only be valid while your I-94 is valid, ie. up to 90 days after US entry.  So just apply for EAD based on AOS, which is category (c)(9).

Yes, you may apply for SSN up to day 76 of your US entry.

Best to apply before getting married.  Other VJ members reported having issues when applying for SSN after the wedding, due to discrepancies with their personal information (name, marital status) in DHS records.  But if you've already married, try to apply anyway.
