Hello,

I am ready to submit my I-129f form and just discovered that there is a mistake in my passport that says I was born in New York when in fact I was born in another state in the US. Will this incongruence give me issues and further delay the process? Thank you in advance

Do you have an alternative proof of US citizenship such as a US birth certificate?

I have a US birth certificate and a social security card. would that be sufficient and keep the passport out of it?

US Birth certificate is all you need, and indeed is preferred over a US passport. You can expect to be asked to show the original BC at the I-485 interfere.

Do not mail the original. Be sure to mail photocopies of front and back.

Thank you for the information. I also have one other issue, on my US birth certificate, my others middle name has a typo in it. I was planning on submitting it with the name that is displayed on the birth certificate rather than her properly spelled middle name so everything matches. What are your thoughts?

Wow this just keeps better . 🙁

Entering a middle name that you know is incorrect is not something I will  advise, because the form requires you to certify:

I certify, under penalty of perjury, that all of the information in my petition and any document submitted with it were provided or authorized by me, that I reviewed and understand all of the information contained in, and submitted with my petition, and that all of this information is complete, true, and correct.

Perjury is not good.

I would,

* enter the correct name

* file an application to correct the name on your BC

* include a copy of the application

* In part 8, indicate the discrepancy, and refer the reader to the copy of the name correction application

I guess I was getting caught up in trying to submit to expedite seeing my partner and hadnt considered the issue of perjury. I will correct the BC prior to submitting. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Submit the form as you planned, if you're somehow frightened about the middle name being  misspelled, then add the alternative versions in other names used.

YMMV

Lucky.

Lucky you.

Lucky you.

The I-485 letter told me to bring my birth certificate. Which I did. I was instead asked for my original naturalization certificate, Not my passport. Not my passport card. Not my global entry card, or any other non-primary evidence of US citizenship.

And I knew I would be asked for my original naturalization certificate. So I brought it.

As I wrote, OP "can expect" to be asked for the original BC. I am aware that some petitioners (and beneficiaries)  are not asked. My IO asked for original proofs of US citizen from me, and original birth records from my wife. We had them. We knew we had to have them. We prepared.

Really^3

And if you would not have brought it then what?

First words out of our interviewers mouth was, let me see your passports.

This IO would have given us an RFE.

Our IO's first words were to make us take an oath.

Another  difference between your IO and ours is that

* your IO approved you the day of your interview.

* our approval date was 11 days after the interview.
