I agree with everything you said.  The other things that has helped Singapore compared to Indonesia as well as other countries is that they have one of the best medical care systems in the world and the people generally are very healthy and there is an enormous culture for people to take care of their health.  Which unlike the US who has a decent medical system, that system is overrun by a population who is extremely unhealthy with obesity and diabetes the main issues.

I still have my PR status in Singapore and its highly likely we will be leaving the US after this school year.  Even though Singapore does have some issues, its probably the closest country on earth that could be considered utopia.  High salaries, low taxes, an educated population, incredible public transportation, clean air, great medical facilities, a government who runs a surplus, incredible technology and fast internet, a diverse population, and excellent geographic location to travel to other countries on extended weekends.  Yes, its expensive to own a car (although you dont really need one), discrimination can be a problem towards certain groups, in particular certain Indians and Bangladeshi's, plus its nickname can be Singabore, but I have enjoyed my time there.  There is also a reason why most of their government officials are reasonable and intelligent as they actually require a person to have basic skill sets to be in public office, unlike some other countries.  Yes Ive probably drank the Singapore kool-aid, but now having time to become more acquainted with the US after 28 years away, Singapore just offers so much more.  Due to Covid, they have made it slightly more difficult to obtain employment passes (raised the minimum salary to qualify plus some additional qualifications) but its still relatively easy for a foreigner to find a job there.  About 40% of the population are immigrants or workers there on work permits, S-passes and Employment passes.

@flicks1998 My family and I had Singapore PR decades ago but were forced by ICA to give up PR status after living outside of Singapore for several years. Similar to the US PR equivalent of a green card, there exists some requirement of maintaining residency to Singapore in order not to forfeit this status (hence aptly titled "permanent resident" moniker). To be honest- I'm not familiar with the current rules. Even though all of our family and extended family are all from Singapore, that alone in and of itself is not sufficient to maintain PR. Something to keep in mind ...

In addition, once you lose Singapore PR it will be difficult to reacquired PR status. An ex-PR can acquire employment pass no problems but acquisition of Singapore PR these days (in general, even for non-ex PR's) is not as easy as in years past. As with most other wealthy societies, immigration has been a contentious point of conversation the past few years- there is less appetite in foreigners taking up the good white-collared jobs that could have went to Singaporeans.

Reading recent articles, qualification for Singapore PR heavily depends on how well you can integrate into Singapore society (if you are of Chinese descent the scales are weighted in your favor). There was even a story of someone who had a good reference from the ex-prime minister and even that didn't secure him a PR.

As someone who grew up and was raised through the Singapore education system and called Singapore home for over a decade, I agree with you on a desire to return for my own children's upbringing. However with the insane humidity, high hours associated with Asia work office culture and rat's race, housing, and exorbitant car prices (google COE certificate of entitlement), I would rather prefer my adopted country the home of the brave and land of the free. An annual trip to gorge char kway teow, laksa, nasi lemak works well for me 🤣

They did finally book 40 million doses of Pfizer with deliveries starting in late August.  That should be enough to cover the elite and high priority groups.  Once the elite class is fully vaccinated with 'good' vaccine, it will be much easier to declare "problem solved", nothing to worry about anymore, back to business as usual.  No one in Philippines will ever trust China Vax.

you got that right......i had a hard time talking my girl into being vaccinated.......mostly because only chinese vax was available.......she finally did get pfizer now and her family are telling her she has 2 years to live and will become a zombie

and many of them keep adding americans on facebook and the trumpies keep sending them memes and misinfo about vaccinations........and they LISTEN to them before they listen to scientists...its insane how much they seem to believe any american and the magas i think are happy to have someone listen to them without arguing so they love pumping the misinfo to filipinos via fb about microchips, dna manipulation and 5g gonna make them go kill their families and its all to make satanist lizards like bill gates and soros rich so they can afford to eat more babies or something.... all that nonsense

now i do understand why they mistrust the chinese.......i even kinda understand why many of them hate the chinese......they want nothing to do with the chinese and are waiting around for more pfizer to be available.........many said they will vax just not sinovac

but i do know the one thing that gets many vaccinated......its the fact that they wont be let anywhere else in the world without a vax

MANILA, Philippines — At least 37,000 doses of China-made Sinovac vaccine in Quezon province remain unused as many residents prefer other brands.

In an interview over ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo, Gov. Danilo Suarez cited reports from health units that many residents are waiting for COVID-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Gamaleya and Janssen.

as of 2 days ago they are now 66% vaccinated

they told me one health pass is here to stay for awhile and that outdoor masks will still be a thing for at least a few more months

the thing about masks.....whether you believe in their effectiveness against covid or not....it DID bring down flu, cold, strep numbers down under the implementations of mandates
