If you have provided the biometrics in the recent past(upto 5 years), they would use the same. They would send a mail around 4 - 6 weeks, since the application. This happened for me, when I applied for RP, last July. I wouldn't know, what's the situation in the recent past, considering the pandemic has subsided to a larger extent.

But, the timelines for getting the RP, is almost an year and more. I have been awaiting for my RP, from last July.

Can you apply and wait to hear from fingerprinting appointment while outside the US?

We can NOT say this for sure. In the recent past, they have waived the appointment for biometrics by using the existing prints available with them.
One would NOT be sure, as this might depend on how old is your prints with them. I would suggest to wait for the notification of biometrics, and then plan the travel outside of US.

I applied for a re-entry permit 12th July and left the US the next day. Received notice of Action July 15th. I am currently waiting on a second letter advising me of what they decide to do with my biometrics. I am hoping they can re use the old ones, but if not, I will return for my biometrics appointment.

Did you leave the US before they received your documents?

If u left the country on the 13th, and USCIS received your documents on the 15th, I think they can deny your case:

So, I need to stay until I receive the notice for biometrics.

Why would you think I do NOT need the travel document?
I have been traveling more in the recent past and once in 2019, I had a stamp on PP saying I stayed beyond 6 months. The last travel outside was for nearly 6 months(Jan - Jun 21) and might travel again in couple of months BUT for max of 3 months. So, these frequent travels makes me jittery at POE and hence this travel document(Return Permit).

how long did u stay outside the US in 2019 to get that "stamp"?

I left the US the day after I mailed it.

Even in the link you posted, the OP received an appointment for biometrics but couldn’t make it. If I get a biometrics appointment, I will go straight back.

- NO NEWS after that, still outside the US waiting for the my re-entry permit and confused whether to travel back to avoid the one year issue or just wait for it even I pass the one year period. very confused.

BTW, for people asking for fingerprint re-use, don't risk it, they took my biometrics less then 6 months and still took them again for the re-entry permit. Don't risk your case based on other people's cases, each case is different.
Also, anyone knows whether the 2 years period starts from the approval date ? or the filing date ? if it's the filing date then the applicant would already loose more than a year from their allowed time

I applied for re-entry permit on 07/01/21 and left US, coz I got the notification that they will reuse my earlier fingerprints(08/01/21). As there was NO update until april this year, i travelled back to stay within the 'one year' rule. This august they wanted my photos taken again, and once I sent the same, there is progress on my application.

@Kudla So you stayed outside of the US for 10 months and since there was no updates on your Re-entry permit you decided to come back. Did you have any issues at the port of entry ? did they hammer you with question on why you passed the 6 months mark outside the US ? I think I should travel back just in case to avoid any issues.
Thank you for your replay I really appreciate it

She did ask me about my long stay, overseas. I had to explain my personal situation and also did show her my re-entry application receipt notice and intent to maintain the status.

Indeed. To be on the safer side, always better to follow the rule book. My advise would be to return back within one year, in absence of an approved re-entry permit.

On 10/01, the status was 'Re-entry permit has been produced' and later in the day it went to 'At this time USCIS cannot provide you with information for your case. Please contact the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283 for additional information.'

Does any here have experience of the same? What does this indicate? Calling that number always goes to automated response. The number doesn't connect to a human at USCIS.

Do I need to be worried? Please advise.
