Hi Everyone,

My wife and I don’t have any financial co-mingling documents to show as Im from Canada and all my bank accounts are from Canada. My wife’s account are here in US. And we were planning to open joint bank account after we get my EAD/SSN. Is that acceptable with uscis as I cant have any bank account in US until I have my EAD. Would uscis question us on it prior to interview? They shouldn’t as they should know I cant have financial co-mingling docs until I get my work permit?

thanks

H

Your situation is common yes … find as many other ways to have good evidence of bonafide relationship apart from finances. Remember too that you’ll have time after getting your EAD and before your interview to get good financial mingling. You can at least get added to her bank account now ..

Even before you get your EAD work permit, it may be possible to get added as a dependent to your wife's health insurance plan or as a beneficiary to her life insurance plan, retirement plan, or will.  Also possible to be added as authorized user of her bank accounts or credit cards.  Your name may also get added to her mobile plan or other utility bills.
