Hi All,

I am just starting the K-1 process now. Is there a way for me to know ahead of time, which Service Center my application will go to?

I am considering between K-1 and CR-1. The processing times for both are vastly different for different Service Centers. I am located in California. So, does that mean that I will get CSC? Or will my case go to the service center with the least backlog?

If you file the I-129F to go for K1, your petition will likely be processed at the California SC.  A few cases with special circumstances get processed in Vermont SC.

If you file the I-130 for CR1, the processing center assignment will be random and you will have no influence over it.  As such, pointless to worry about it.

In any case, it may not be prudent to base your decision mainly on petition processing time or even estimated time-to-visa.  With the CR1 process, your loved one will gain the superior benefit of permanent resident status upon US entry, which includes immediate authorization to work.  With the K1 process, all they get is a single-use visa.  After entering the US, they still have to apply to be allowed to stay beyond 90 days and to work.
