Your name was added to your husband,s Chase account.  Was it a checking account?  If so just write a check.  Checks are processed electronically these days and the image will be back in your account 2-3 days after it is cashed.  You should also be able to get a statement showing your (and his) name on the account and your address.

Get a renter's policy at his parents address.

Surely you husband has an ID?  Bring your marriage certificate along.

Sign a lease with his parents.

Does your husband have a cell phone?  They'd probably add your name to the account.  Also, a 2nd phone on an existing account is often the cheapest way to get a cell phone here.

Maybe his parents would add your name to an account or two?  I'm collecting evidence for our Removal of Conditions proof, so earlier today I emailed our fiber internet vendor and asked them to add her name and mail me a statement; they sent back a nice PDF file of a statement showing both names.

Regarding SSN's, they can't be required for benefits.  I had my fiance's name as my insurance beneficiary months before she arrived in the U.S.  They arrived here July 26, 2017.  We were married the next day, and I immediately emailed the benefits change form (no SSN's) so their health/dental/life/disability coverage started Aug. 1.  She (K-1) got her SSN a few days later; the kids had to wait about three months for the employment authorizations to arrive. I kept HR informed as we received the SSN's.

These were all address proof examples that they needed from me, I only needed one of them to open an account or add my name to my husbands account at Chase.

My husband has his drivers licence with his address, the issue wasn't with his address proof it was with mine.

It worked out fine as we ended up going to Bank of America instead to open the account, and they did it smoothly without need for proof of address.

@LibertyBears, I am glad everything worked out! When there is a will, there is a way!

By the way, you can include your spouse's Voter Registration as proof of address. Not sure if I'd mentioned that before. :)

Don't think you did... however not sure if that would have worked as Chase asked me specifically for one of those documents listed that had MY name on it plus a US address. 😕 Didn't matter if it had my husband's name , had to have mine.

it's all fine now though because now that I have Bank of America account opened, I can use that as my address proof to be added to his Chase account if needed :)  you're definitely right, if there's a will theres a way.

Very grateful for everyone who gave their insight and helped !

We have a meeting scheduled tomorrow to open a Credit Card with bank of america too and for me to be added as authorised user

I also managed to be added to his Discover credit card as authorised user by using a filler SSN (111-22-3333)

Going to also add me to his car insurance as an unlicenced spouse, no additional fees as I can't drive ( apparently I can / should be added to it regardless if I have a driver's permit or not )

The only thing is the health/dental/life insurance (all in one) with his work place that we're still fighting to get me on, they're VERY adamant about being unable to add me to the system without SSN as they're insisting they cannot input it into the computer without it 😕

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant that including a US citizen's voter registration is a good proof of cohabitation to include as part of your evidence of bona fide marriage. It lists your address.

Very nice! Now you have to use these cards. USCIS likes to see that.

I do not know if that will increase your husband's insurance rate. Either way, you can do it that way now and later on, give the insurance company your driver's license once you have it. For now, you should be able to get a state ID. Now that you have proof of address.

HR... HR... HR... I am telling you... They're something else. I would call the number on the back of your husband's insurance card and ask the insurance directly how to add you without a SSN. It can be done. You are going to have to do the footwork for HR on this one and call.

Your husband should also be able to access the benefits online. There should be an option for a "qualifying event" (marriage, loss of coverage, gain of coverage). he should be able to add you. You could try 111-22-3333 and see if it works.

Alternatively, you could ask the insurance number if using 111-22-3333 or any placeholder number would work. Of note: you may need to ask for a senior agent or supervisor to answer that question.

All the best!

Just wanted to update everyone:

We have not been able to add me to my husband's health/dental/vision/life insurance... 😩

If anyone else happens to be in the same boat, my husbands works for NYSDOCCS.

We have tried again and again and AGAIN, it's been difficult due to his work schedule and the HR office opening times clashing and him unable to move from his post.

They have sent us on wild goose chases and multiple phone numbers to call that have had us going around in circles.

Multiple people here on VJ told us that it's possible and to keep pushing however they now told us two days ago that the ONLY way they will add me on without SSN is if we give them a government documentation stating that I am in the process of applying for a SSN OR stating that I applied and got denied a SSN.

We plan to send off the AOS packet as is, and then we can show his work my i-765 form which hopefully will be enough to add me on his insurance so we will at least have all the insurance documentation for the interview.

--------

For those that are interested, are i-130 marriage evidence includes:

  • Joint checkings account + cheque book (Bank of America - no SSN or proof of address needed)
  • Authorised user on my husband's credit cards (Bank of America + Discovery -no SSN or proof of address needed)
  • Car Insurance - added as his spouse without licence
  • USPS informed delivery for residence proof
  • Affidavits from family members
  • Wedding photos + wedding vows
  • Engagement + wedding rings
  • Letter to explain that we reside with his parents therefore no household bills/tenancy agreements

We were going to include a large file that showed our relationship in timeline, from first face meetings to long distance maintainence but thought this might be too much.

We read on here that frontloading for AOS is not necessary but we will probably bring all of that with us for the interview.

Posting this here for future UK'ers incase it is handy for anyone else.

I was able to change my HSBC address to my US one, which was an easy way to get a proof of address to use over here, just had to request a statement once the address had changed.

Also, if you are looking to improve/bring over your UK credit score, I was able to apply for an AMEX using my UK credit history. I just applied for the card online and had to call them up to finalize the process, this involved the AMEX operator calling my US bank (joint account my husband added me onto) and getting the other operator to just confirm my address on their records was the same as the one I was signing up with.

In regards to insurance, I know you mentioned you have jumped through hoops to get added without SSN. I am sure that I read that it is a law that no matter where your spouse is from, if they are your spouse then the insurance company have to let you add them on regardless of immigration status or where they live. This is not useful to you, I am aware but it is something to look further into if you are still struggling.
