The 13th Amendment doesn't prevent your employer from imposing a "no fish in the microwave" rule no matter, how much you want to nuke last night's cod.

Indeed.

And yet your analogy is false.

The correct analogy would be an employer that requires me to bring fish from home, microwave it, and eat it.  And me complying.  And annoying my coworkers.  Who then say bad things about me.  Causing me to tell Slate that my work environment is hostile.

What the 13th amendment does do is let me ignore the no fish rule without fear of being legally compelled into corporal punishment from my boss’s

overseer.  The most my boss can do is fire me, and even successfully block my unemployment insurance claim.

The mass misunderstanding of how America works is not that surprising, sadly.

He does allow me out of the home! I am not responsible for what he does during those times.
