interview prep for chennai

Hello friends,

My wife's k-3 interview is scheduled for Aug 2nd @ 10 AM. Need advice from those who went thru Chennai Consulate or going through Chennai.

Received the packet with visa forms

DS-156 (2 copies), DS-156K, DS-230 PART 1

I need help with the following

1. DS156, DS156K have to be filled out. Do we have to fill DS230 Part 1 (the instructiosn only refer DS156)

2. Do the documents have to be submitted in person at a VFS office?

3. Does my wife have to submit them in person or can I request my brother to submit the documents?

(do they verify any information etc. which would require my wife to be in person at the VFS office)

Hello, we did K1 not K3 but probably the paperwork to be provided is similiar.

1. We filled out DS-230 and submitted it , it was accepted. I would go ahead and fill it out just in case, better to be over-prepared than under-prepared!

2. & 3. As far as I know, we are supposed to submit all papers in person to the VFS office. However, why don't you (or your wife in India) try to get through to the VFS Regional Helpline at: 044-4231-6767 and ask whether your brother can submit the documents? Also post their reply here, it would be helpful to others (one other person had same question as you).

i would say fill all the forms but do not sign any form your wife will be asked to sign it in front of CO, and it will not hurt to fill of ds 156k and i guess its good to go personally to VFS

my wife went to VFS office (hyd) y'day morning.

1)they just took 2 copies of DS156 and I 134 (this package has bank stmnts, paystubs, 2006 tax forms, emp letter)..

they asked for medicals too, to which she replied that she would submit them at the consulate, as she plans to get all the work done at a single shot, i.e, travel to chennai, get her medicals done, take 2 days rest, go to intrv on jul 20, instead of traveling to and fro.

the vfs said its fine

2) the packet 4 said to get my tax forms of the recent year and the recent year is 2005

but i just send 2006, the vfs didnt complain bout this (but am anyways sending 2005 too, which may be helpful at the consulate)

3) DS 156- i made print outs on 3 different pages, but vfs wanted the first 2 pages to be on a single paper, i.e, page 1 and 2 on front and bac of a single sheet, page 3 to be page 2. luckyly vfs has a copy center in their office

4) they took some pictures of the marriage (15), which 10 have both of us, remaining 5 shall have both the families involved

(p.s should she take more to the consulate, she is planning to take 3 full albums engagement, marriage, reception, will they allow inside? )

5) they took copies of my US passport, my US citizenship cert, original marriage cert along with a copy, her original birth cert with a copy, her police certs and copies

6) they gave reciept of the documents that they took

she shall go to lister labs on 16th, medicals on 17th and intrv on jul 20

i think the beneficiary should present there. even if they allow ur brother to hand over the documents, i would still suggest that ur wife be present there personaly.

it elimintaes any doubts she may have regds the documentation, or take this way, its kind of preliminary interview

no mala VFS is just a collection centre . the embassies of diffrent countries have kind of outsourced their work of document colletion to vfs. so do not worry they just take the documents u have give u the reciept of all the documents (original and photocopies)which are later returned by embassy on the day of interview. IT IS IN NO WAY A PRELIM INTERVIEW> so relax have have fun. if u miss on submitting one or two things in the time frame of vfs u can submit those docs at the time of interview. so dont worry

Here is an email I received from VFS about submitting docs in person plus 'Rush Service' to pick up the passport.

1. per this email you can authorize somebody but it is preferred to submit in person. ( I have made arrangements so that my wife will get her medical done and turn in the docs @ VFS )

2. Rush service - Passport is available for pickup "the day it is received from consulate". My next research item is to find out what is that day :-)) Will keep y'all updated.

EMAIL CONTENTS FROM VFS -

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your email.

Kindly note it is required to sumbit your documents at VFS in person. If you not able to submit the documents,you can authourise some other person to submit the documents.

Rush service is an optional service by which you may opt to collect your passport across the counter at the US Visa Application Centre located in the city where you were interviewed on the day that VFS receives the passport from the consulate.

Applicants whose interview was scheduled at the Chennai Consulate may avail of the Rush service between 1600-1700 hours.

Your passport will be handed across the counter on the day it is received from the Consulate. If it is not collected the same evening the passport will be automatically dispatched to you by courier.

There is no additional cost to avail this service
