Can they use the term "women" anymore?  I thought it was supposed to be "birthing person(s)".  Regardless, I am not sure the WHO has that power (or credibility), but it is nice to know they are recommending totalitarian actions.

Pregnant women shouldn't be drinking, but as for a woman drinking simply because they are of a certain age, is complete nonsense. We should all try to have a healthy lifestyle, and that includes not over-drinking. There are many health issues that young women may have that are not only on the increase but could be made worse by the over-consumption of alcohol (so can men), but that is a personal decision or one consulted with their physician.

Completely agree with this. Like many people, I saw my own alcohol consumption tick up during the worst of the pandemic. Not getting drunk, but just drinking more frequently. When I became ill in April, I severely curtailed my drinking and have seen only benefits from limiting myself to two to three glasses of wine a week. Only once did I drink more than that, and that was at a wedding. I am a woman of child bearing age who does not intend to procreate, so it is silly that I should be prevented from drinking if I wish. As it so happens, I wish to drink less right now, and if I choose to drink more, that is on me. The information is out there.

What I would like is to see OBGYN's stop telling women that it's ok to have a glass or two of wine while pregnant.  The amount of moms I know who have been given the OK to have more than a few drinks while pregnant is sickening.  

 

Banning women from drinking long before they have kids or never have kids is nuts.

I'm still on the mend from whatever it is that is making me hurt all over my body that started in late April. I will admit I had a glass of sauv blanc today at lunch with a friend. Just the one. And that was all that I wanted. I'm glad to have found one silver lining in being so unwell for two months!

I think this has more to do with birth control and how expensive kids are to raise
