MNL to LAX to PHL some questions ty

Hello,

 

so my mom missed her flight.. and the airline we booked with is asking for a crazy amount of money to reschedule the flight. Long story short, she is now flying with PAL.

 

She is a senior citizen, and we had no problems with the previous airline to request for assistance, as the layover before was Doha. However, this time the layover is LAX, these are my questions:

1. Does she need to collect her baggage when she arrives in LAX? PAL is partnering with American Airlines, so the flight to PHL it will be AA. We booked it all in one ticket.
2. Will LAX be the airport she will get interviewed by immigrations?

She’ll need to collect her bags at point of entry so yes LAX. Not sure what you mean by is it where she’ll be interviewed, what visa is she travelling on?

tourist. i never had a connecting flight in US. normally outside US. So does this mean, she'll be interviewed by Immigrations (purpose of visit etc) in LAX instead of PHL?

Yes. First landing in US is the POE for customs and immigration (CBP inspection)

Yes, POE is LAX. Checked luggage must be claimed by the passenger at the carousels, and then after leaving CBP area the checked luggage can be turned-in to the airline.

She will go through the passport /visa /immigration booth first then go to baggage to collect her luggage then proceed through customs inspection. The process is well set .. she can ask for assistance if needed. After exiting the arrivals area she will need to drop her luggage off at the connecting flights drop off area and proceed  to her departing flight terminal

thank you so much, so after immigration, right before the baggage area, where can she ask for help? do I need to contact the AA airline for this?

What help does she need? The airline will explain the procedure for connecting flights before they land, including where to find the baggage connections place to drop the luggage off. 

 

Make sure you have enough time on the layover for her to clear immigration and customs before her next flight, and also check if she will connect in the same or another terminal.

she h as 4 hours before her flight

my mom even when I advised her not to, is bringing 2 big luggages with and she does have a hard time moving around with it, as she gets easily tired with walking (sadly there is no relative that can fly with her). the airline before was already easy enough but since we changed airlines and layovers procedures will be different. and I read PAL has been moved to an area where connecting flights, you would need to walk more and is a bit farther, for her she will find it hard to walk to. I was wondering if there's someone I can call to make sure someone can help her get to the next gate. a wheelchair or cart.

Ok 4 hours should be plenty. 

There are baggage carts she can use, will that help? I don’t think she is going to be able to find people to just physically help her moving the luggage, if that is what you need. If you want her to have a wheelchair and help that way (obviously someone will help with her luggage if she is in a wheelchair) then you need to arrange this with the airline before she flies.

thank you very much! will coordinate with them! the offices have closed but will do this first thing in the morning

LAX is a fairly easy airport to fly into by US standards.  Every time I ever arrive on PAL they usually have about 30 wheelchairs lined up in the jetway so PAL is very well versed in what to do and they handle such passengers really well. PAL arrives in Tom Bradley Terminal and AA is in terminal 4 but those terminals are now connected with an indoor connector bridge.  I imagine they would probably transfer her to an electric cart and drive her to the gate in T4 after she cleared customs and then get her another wheel chair at the gate.

thank you very much! do i need to contact LAX airport for the cart? I've coordinated PAL with the wheelchair. also filled up a form for AA assistance. Hope that is enough to help her through a lot of stuff.
