I always say that it's great that there's so much room in this country that we can sort ourselves into places we'd rather be. :) I happen to like living here. Hope you have a safe and event-free move -- personally, I hate moving SO much, and now we're talking about maybe buying later this year. The market's finally starting to cool down so that not parking more money in real estate that we actually want to live in seems like poor planning on our part. We just didn't want to buy a home until he got his green card, and then when he did the market was peaking. But we plan on taking advantage of the coming downturn/correction. I'm not as crass as my friend who says, when there's blood in the streets, buy property, but I appreciate the sentiment.

What would be a wonderful is if a so called immigration friendly state would not require new residents to wait 6 months for a road test.  $100B surplus and the DMV is run like that of an under developed country.  I cannot believe no incumbent governor of this state is never held accountable for this. Other states out source road tests to driving school.  Not Newsom’s California: it’s special.

The real problems for Portugal, will start when (as Coloradans, Texans, Arizonans, Tennesseans, etc can attest) transplanted Californians start to vote.

This really doesn't seem logical.  Does "Trumpian" politics really exist in CA?  I do love the title of the story though.

A story titled "Welcome to Portugal, the new expat haven. Californians, please go home," reports that the number of Americans living in Portugal has risen by 45% in the past year with many of those Americans moving from California in order to escape high housing costs, pandemic lockdowns, and "Trumpian politics" in the United States.

By area most of California is Trump country, and people aren’t even coy about it. Forget about “let’s go Brandon” …. Pickup trucks are adorned with banners with the real profanity about Biden.

Lots of people from  west LA county and from the San Francisco Bay Area who move to less expensive zip codes of California have trouble coping with the overt disdain these Californians have for woke culture. Of course when they instead Modesto places like Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, or Florida, coping is harder.

The only way to truly escape “Trumpian politics” (places whete people don’t fear cancellation for saying anything good about Trump) is to leave the country and even if then one needs to be careful.  Portugal is safely anti Trump. Not sure one say the same about the Czech Republic.
