Agriculture? You know that they are suffering from a drought right now while sending millions of gallons of water out to sea right?

Dude, the drought is over

You are aware that this thing called wine is made from grapes? Apparently California is a big producer of it. There are also these agricultural products like citrus, strawberries, nuts, artichokes, etc etc etc. California does this without the largess of government subsidies given to Iowa corn fields producing ethanol for big business

Definitively, California has between the 5th and 7th largest economy in the world, depending on data between 2017-2020. Even if California sucks at water management, this isn't even up for debate.

Yes, I have met many of the large farmers that make the nuts in the Central Valley. The sad thing with that is that most of almonds grown are shipped overseas.

BTW the drought is not over: https://news.yahoo.com/photos-show-historically-low-reservoirs-192046780.html

And again... this does not refute Trompe's point that CA has the 7th largest economy, nor does it refute that CA has the number one economy in the nation.

Let's try this: Texas actually has the 9th largest economy in the world, by GDP. It would be like me saying Texas can't possibly have the 9th largest economy because they have a terrible power grid infrastructure.

I wasn't refuting the economy aspect at all, quite frankly I wasn't even responding to you. My comment is based off of that person's post saying "Dude, the drought is over"

I understand you weren't responding to me. You were responding to Trompe, who wrote:

And then you replied:

So I guess a charitable interpretation would be that you weren't disagreeing that California has an incredibly successful economy right now, but that you were nit-picking one item in a list of things that California doing well at. If that's the case, then apologies. But even here, you're incorrect. Agriculture is a staple of the California economy, drought or no drought.

Funny, how many people in the metros don't realize that at all. But then when you are driving around the CV you see so many "Water=Jobs", Water=Life, Water=Crops signs up all over the place. That is because they often feel overlooked

Yep. I don't disagree that California's management of its natural resources is problematic. As a former resident of the CV, I saw these same things. I don't think it takes away what CA is doing right (and I continue to believe other states should be looking closely at those successes to see what they can take away to help their own states), but yes they definitely need to figure out how to manage their resources better.

Its not Trump talking point when its true. They haven't built a new reservoir since the 70's while the population has almost doubled. They have approved measures for water infrastructure but nothing has been done about it

Let's drill down on these points.

How much has agriculture water usage grown over this period compared to urban ag uses?

What percentage of water usage is determined to be Urban?

How many gallons of water does it take to grow one pistachio? Hint, I love pistachios and the number gives me a guilty feeling.

How far has the central valley elevation dropped due to water extraction over the last 10 years?
