No, it's not ok. If you stay too long outside US you can loose your Permanent Resident status, even if you apply for a re-entry permit, 2 or 3 years out of US would mean (to the government) that you no longer want to live in US, so you don't need a GC anymore.

Sorry

But why are you here if you miss your famely more than being with your wife and kids?

Sorry I didn't read your post closely enough

i feel like im missing out a lot of memories back home. i left my wife and my 2 very young kids. i am struggling, homesick and despressed already. i live with my family here but my "own" family is all i think about. im tryin to be strong but sometimes i really wanna quit. i dont know wat to do.

im an immigrant and i wonder if i go back to manila and stay there 2 to 3 years is that acceptable at all? i mean would you do that or rather sacrifice now than to wait longer again if you go back. can i still go back? what would they need from me if i request to go back after 2-3 years? thanks

Ok let me ask

What's the reason you wanted to immigrate and leave your wife and kids?

well i just said its a lifetime just to make things short..but i didnt mean literally lifetime.come on! :-)

anyway the thing is im a green card holder thats it..my question is is it ok if i go back there and stay 3 years? i know i should get a license something in order to go back here if i know ill be away more than 365 days. but anyway i think u already helped me. so im thinking ill just sacrifice and stay here. then wait till i petition them if i become a citizen in 2011.

Well, a re-entry permit is only good for one year. You could always try a returning resident visa but there is no guarantee they will approve you. I filed for one of those before doin the K-1 and I spent $4oo only to get denied. As painful as reality is, try to wait it out as long as you can.

Do you have to be a citizen to petition for them? I thought a LPR can also petition for immediate family members?

as a GC holder u can petition your immediate family, you file I-130 for your wife and kids at the uscis you don't have to wait to be a u.s.citizen. if you have not enough income you can always use a co-sponsor.am also from the phils with my own family left there so i understand your situation.go home for 6 mos then come back then go home again. but i wonder whats going to happen with your job here in the u.s.
