Your suggestion could backfire because the consulates do not uniformly use the I-864 to adjudicate K visa interviews.

You said it would backfire during AOS. Please be consistent. This is what you said before:

What I mean is more hypothetical - if the 'relaxed' requirements for the I-134 (i.e non-binding) enables someone who is borderline to get a visa, it may not work out so well when they adjust status, where the I-864 is used.”

It has no negative implications if the consulate is more relaxed, if the applicant has anyway met the i864 guidelines they will need for AOS

Why would a K-1 have necessarily already met the I-864 guidelines?   My point was that the bar is lower for sponsorship for K-1s, than for other visa types (CR/IR-1).   This can result in applicants getting into trouble when they AOS, which, depending on which consulate conducted their K-1 interview,  is likely the first time they need to meet the I-864 guidelines.

not sure why this is so hard to explain, lol…..

Oh for heavens sake. I don’t think you actually followed the conversation you responded to. The entire point was that IF they had already met the i864 requirements anyway it would be fine when doing AOS. Not sure why this is so hard to explain.

I followed it.  I was making the point that because of consular differences, not all K-1s will have met the I864 requirements at AOS.

The I-134 affidavit of support for the k1 visa takes into consideration the 100% poverty line which is 17420 for a couple, the 125% is for AOS once you are in USA.

Some embassies/consulates prefer at least 125% even for K1 interviews. It's up to the COs. It's a judgement call by the CO.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! We've secured a job offer for myself, listed some assets (stocks etc) that were previously not mentioned and I was gifted money by friends and family to top up our savings. My fiance had exceeded 100% of the federal poverty line, but not 125%, and it seems that the Dublin embassy needs to see 125%+. We're going to resubmit our documents shortly, wish us luck!
