He can not use his GC for re-entry into the United States. Will this statement come off once he has adjusted status? We filed I485/765/131 together. We were successful in getting the AP approval. Just curious about the GC.

My husband did receive his Employment Authorization Document EAD just last month. Is this not what we consider the green card? This card has a caption that reads, "not valid for re-entry into the United States".

This isn't the green card, it's just stating that he can work in the U.S. You will have to apply for Advanced Parole, form I-131, in order to travel in and out of the US before he gets his green card.

The EAD just authorizes you husband to work. it is not a green card. that's why it's not valid for re-entry into USA.

Now we understand. Thank you. So the green card comes after AOS approval?? We just received an email from USCIS that AOS was granted.

the EAD is just the employment authorization, AOS (adjustment of status) is adjusting your husbands status to a permanent resident, at which point they issue a card stating as much (also known as a green card).

K-1 visa issued: 12/15/2006

107 days from mailing AOS package to receiving green card! Received 6/27/07 dated 6/20/07

Removing conditions:

Check cashed 5/27/09

NOA date 5/26/09 - still not received

The green card is the Permanent Resident ID card, form I-551, not the EA card.

W00t!!! Congratulations - and yep, the card you'll receive soon DOES allow you to travel as freely as if you were an American Citizen!

Well, not quite! There are limitations on how long you are outside of the USA for example.

However in some cases its better than having US Citizenship, for example, as a UK passport holder I can (and have) go to Brazil without paying for a Visa, and my Green Card lets me back in the USA. US Citizens (or at least, those attempting to enter Brazil with a US passport) cannot enter Brazil without paying $200 for a visa! :)

Ooh yes, I'd forgotten about that! I suppose because I don't intend to leave for any extended periods, that was off my radar. It's also neat when you have en EU passport and you can stand in the EU line at immigration all over Europe.

Still, I can't wait until I get to travel again. My AP was approved on June 28. Why is it not here in my hand yet?? How long should that take?
