Hey there,

I'm a Canadian applicant of a K1 Visa with intent to immigrate to the US. My fiancee and I received our NVC Case # Mid-March 2021, and have been waiting to receive our email/letter. But when I go to ceac.state.gov.iv to check my application status, the only thing it shows is instruction to fill out a DS-160. Is this normal?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What is the actual status of your case? Does it say "ready"? Have you received an email from the embassy?

Edit: as far as I know there are only a few statuses like "At NVC", "Ready", "Refused" and a few more.

That's where my issue is. As far as I understand, going to ceac.state.gov is where I can know if it's "at NVC" or "Ready", but instead I am only instructed to fill out my DS-160. Is there somewhere else I should be looking for my case status?

Also, I have not received an email from the embassy despite receiving our NVC Case # in mid-March.

This is weird, I never heard about it. Hopefully someone else can help.

But I would've contacted the embassy explaining the situation and confirming that filling out DS-160 is what you need to do in order to schedule medical and an interview. And see what they'll say.

This is where you check your status, and you say it doesn't display the status but a message about the DS-160 instead?

Ah, slightly embarrassing, but I’ve found it! It’s “At NVC”. Do we wait for our email or do we submit any forms at this point?

Nobody knows when the case will be sent to the embassy, during the whole pandemic K-1s were halted for the most part and few embassies (if any?) processed any K-1s. Maybe your embassy has started processing them again, I wouldn't know, but even so there will be a massive backlog with all the cases before you in line. So for now, you just have to wait. Once the embassy gets your file (the status will then say "ready" instead of "at NVC") they will likely reach out to you via email.

Yeah, that’s what I figured. Thank you for your help!

Hi there

I’m a Canadian applicant of a K1 Visa with intent to immigrate to the US. My fiancée and I have received our NVC case # Mid-March 2021, and have been waiting to receive our email/letter.

My question is: do we have to fill out our DS-160? And does having it not filled out impact when our NVC case status will be “Ready”?

Any help is appreciated.

No impact. I haven’t filled one out until after it turned to “Ready”.

Hi there,

I'm currently filling out the DS-160 and I've come to the section where it asks when and how long I have ever visited the US. Being a Canadian, I've had many visits. Also, my I-94 travel history does not include all of my arrivals, sometimes only just departures, so I have no way to guess how long I could have been in the US.

My question(s) are:

1. Does it need every single arrival and departure?

2. If it does, will inaccurate info work against me?

Any help is appreciated.

From our experience, they used my ESTA applications against a system that records entry into the USA. I'm not sure how that works in regards to Canada-US trips. However, I do recall giving estimates for my trips, I don't think they will frown upon you for giving near-to travel dates. If you can try and remember as many trips as possible then I'm sure it will go in your favour.

They do ask about these trips during your interview, from my experience, so I'd try and find some history relating to it. Maybe look at old flight receipts if you have any.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help

I had the same issue as I had started traveling to the U.S. regularly way before ESTA and before everything became digital.  I gave them the best estimates I had, including at some point studying here on an F1 visa as I just couldn’t remember my exact entry and exit dates.

In my case, this wasn’t an issue, and nobody ever asked me about my different stays in country; I believe the only question we ever got about any of my U.S. stays was at our AoS interview when I was asked what the longest has been I had ever been in the country and when approximately.

Everybody’s case is different, but I would really just give them the best estimate.  I don’t remember if you can make notes on the DS 160, but if not, just explain at your interview (if asked) that you did the best you could with the dates.

Good luck!
