That's  not  actually  correct. After you get married and before you file your AOS you fill out all the forms with the name you intend to use as you have the marriage  license to back up the change in name. USCIS will be able to tell because of the marriage license is the authority for your name change. Be sure to do it in the beginning of the AOS. It is important that when you fill out the forms you use the name you intend to use as your legal name as long as that change is backed up with the marriage license.

ok thank you. I'm just a little worried that my only form of ID that I have (my german passport) does not have my new name in it. Could that be an issue?

Once you marry and file your AOS you are building or rebuilding your identification legally via the marriage license. Whichever name you represent yourself as FIRST (after marriage is going to be your legal name) once you establish your new legal name then you will need to change all your other forms of ID to match your new legal name passport included. If you submit the AOS in your new legal name once you get the NOA your new legal name should be on it. The NOA coupled with your marriage license is enough to show who you are your passport shows to, but the NOA and the marriage license support the name change...don't sweat it!!!

Sorry Sir, is it marriage license or marriage certificate that required to be sent along with the I-485 form ?

The terminology is pretty interchangeable.  The i-485 instructions request the marriage certificate.  That document is generally the stamped/certified copy of the marriage license that was recorded by the county following marriage (for which you need to submit a photocopy).

@MJ&YY

That is correct whether it is called a marriage license or certificate depends on your state or county.

What’s the difference between a Marriage License and a Marriage Certificate?

A marriage license is obtained from your county/local courthouse and shows that you are legally eligible to marry. It must be signed by the person who marries you as well as by a specified number of witnesses. The person who marries you typically files it with your county after your wedding/marriage.

A marriage certificate is a record proving you were married at a specific time and location. The person who conducts the marriage signs the document verifying that she married you in accordance with local law, with a witness, and a marriage license. You sign the marriage certificate after you are married and your officiant mails it to you afterward. It usually arrives 2-4 weeks after your marriage.

You would submit a marriage certificate with the I-485. :)

Hello everybody,

I have sent my package (i485, i765, I131) on 6/22/2021.

Good luck to all!

My package has been received on 6/24 and I have received all three NOA1s on 3rd of July.  If anyone can advise me on one issue. I have applied for SSN almost a month ago, when I call local office they say the status is pending. I tried to call USCIS  and DHS but could not get to anyone. I am 100% sure that documents I submitted are correct and timeline I applied within is good as well. What should i do now?
