How long until I receive SSN?

Im moving to the US in a few weeks and selected a SSN to be issued in my DS-260.

 

To my understanding, I should be receiving the card within three weeks after being admitted to the country. Is that somewhat likely or will it take longer? Anyone with recent experience?

It could be a few weeks to a few months.  In 2017, my wife received her SS Card 11 days after entry.  I think the average time now is a longer.  Good luck.

2015 got ours in 2 weeks

I agree, YMMV.  Here is a good thread with some recent updates.  I am not sure how accurate the information is about the SSA not issuing the SSN based on the DS260, but it is mentioned there.  You may want to PM some of the more recent posters to get more up-to-date info.

Moved to the US in April and had asked for my SSN to be issued on the DS-260 after three weeks no number, had to contact the SSA and arrange a meeting to apply for a number, the SSA said this frequently happens, my application for the SSN is now sitting with homeland security awaiting approval with no way of following up a time line,I was quoted days to months by SSA.

Be aware that even though you have the right to work some employers will not employee without a SSN as they complete their background checks with it,I have two good job offers that are pending which I feel I may end up losing due to delays in obtaining a SSN.
